Playing as magic based character sucks
Nothing to add, title says everything.
I currently wearing dark artist armor, takes 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hits from enemies in dungeon to die. My friend who plays with yoyo based char, on the other hand, he's still in hallowed armor. Im dying faster than respawning while his armored ass taking all the hits possible and still doing great. Is that even remotely fair? Of course im trying to dodge, but then some enemy use homing projectiles. The ballance between players classes is just broken.

as a mage you are supposed to kill stuffs before they get to you

I might be not so great at this game, but im certain that it's a thing you would do with every class in this game. No, probably that's even a thing you would do in any other kind of game where is another enemies who's going after your head.

mages are very good actually, switch up your items if your having problems, the wonderful thing about terraria is that as a mage you are not limited to specific armor.

Use melee armor. Nothing says you have to use class armor.

Mages are pure DPS with very little survivability. Play melee or ranged if you want more defense.

also, titanium armor give a bit more survivability with the dodge, so try that out if your world have titanium
It's totally okay to just go for melee armor with magic weapons. Suits you fine in a pinch.

But it wont give me boost for my primary abilities, such as less mana consumption and extra damage. Also i enjoy using fireburst summons from event.

Hey, i got a idea. you see, one of the worst things in the dungeon is that everything else is far too dark, and if you can't see the area, you wont be able to hit your enemies and it would be hard to see projectiles or to counter Angry bones rushes.

if you're having problem whit surviving on the dungeon, i would recommend you to bring two or more potions inside it: Shining potion and mist it whit Night Owl potion. if you do this, you might be able to see a lot of the dungeon, and knowing where every enemy is and misting it whit your high amount of DPS and all of the magic weapons you has, you might be able to kill those tiny spell casters before they can launch a spell, and also destroy any horde that comes close enough to you.

I know its pretty simple, but if some people can survive whit magic characters past moonlord and still have a lot of fun, i know there is a lot of possibility to reach the moonlord whitout dying a lot. Also, try using buffing potions a lot, because, what is a mage whitout potions? :)

(Im in pre-hard mode i hope i helped XD)

Uh, what? Realy? I never had a problem to see where they spawned, if it's in the area that player can see, which is always. They kinda making a big, shiny effect when they spawning.

Anyway, i just figured out that worm scarf is a great item for me, also my sentries work perfectly against diabolists and necromancers who blink after every atack. I can place sentry trough walls anywhere on the screen, so they have nowhere to hide.

Also there was plenty of cool magic weapons in dungeon today, guess now im geared up to level of game again.

use melee armor and forfeit all possible benefits to his magic? why should he have to do that?

i mean the hallowed mask gives 24 defense and the hallowed headgear gives what, like 2 defense? the disparity shouldn't be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ large is what his point is. when 1 defense reduces your damage taken by 1 point, you can't have anything less than 50 on hardmode, which makes every non-melee class suffer
Finaly, somebody who understands what im talking about.
After all, why would i even want to use magic weapons if i allready have melee-based armor set.

the worm scarf is an expert mode item though... are you playing in an expert mode world? if not then its really unlegit to use the worm scarf
Yeah, im playing on expert, my friend told me that if i play on normal i will miss like 50-60% content of this game. So, is worm scarf realy so bad? I kinda feeling more comfortable with it now. The other option was frozen turtle shell, but it works after my char got under 50% of HP, which im trying not to go so low, because then anything can insta-kill me.

I'm currently playing an expert multiplayer world as a mage. I'm using a number of magic items; Demon Scythe, Laser Rifle, and Water Bolt are a few. 5/6 of my accessories are warding, and I'm using jungle armor. We just started hardmode, and my melee friend makes it a point to protect me and the ranger, fully utilizing his massive defense. What accessories are you using? I find that the mana regen band and the mana flower help out a lot, and I keep celestial cuffs for other scenarios. Oh, and we're on expert, which is standard for us at this point.
