Well if I know anything about what you're talking about, there are Statues.
Rig up a statue to, oh, a 1s timer will do you fine, activate the timer, and if you're lucky it'll spawn a mob. See this[terraria.gamepedia.com]. Statues only exist for some mobs & the drop chance of anything is lowered.
That's creating mobs. There's a whole bunch of limits - read about them above.
As far as moving them goes:
- Conveyor belts work for items only, not mobs
- A lot of AI involve player position so if you stay in the same spot you should get reliable results
- Teleporters work on mobs but will frequently "back-teleport"
- Hoiks are your best bet - do a bit of googling
And killing them:
- Dart Trap, Super Dart Trap, Flame Trap, Geyser, Spear Trap, Spiky Ball Trap will all do you fine.
- A thin layer of lava will kill the mobs but not the drops. Useful for a gel farm.
- Boulders and explosives require re-placing each time.
