The Lore of Terraria: Historians Needed!
I just got back into Terraria recently, and I find myself obsessed with all the cultures of terraria. First of all, what happened to humans? What caused their decline? Is there an explanation to all the ancient relics found, and not to mention the infections and hollow.

And what of the Lizhards? A race of beings with technology enough to harness the power of fallen stars to power large structures. What caused their fall?

What is the real story behind the dryad?

If you have theories, let me know! I want to compile a history of Terraria's past.

I agree, i saw a message about Terraria's lore in the last Game Theory video but the only problem is that there isn't a lot of lore elements (unless Dark Souls' item description for example)

One of the first theory i saw was that every bosses are affilliated to Cthulhu

Maybe the Lizhard are just the Golem's guardians, to prevent anyone for killing him.

But! Killing the Golem summons the cultists, maybe that the lizhards and the lunar cultists are natural ennemies

The Lizhards had heat-rays, power cells, and the golem. If they didn't spread and decline, why are they contained to a temple under the jungle then?

Rather, if they didn't decline, why are they confined to only the temple?

Maybe because the world of Terraria scare them

Perhaps they are like monks, and voluntarily remain within the temple.

I do have to admit, that is interesting. Are they related?

But I really want to know the relation of plantera to the mechanical bosses.

Xenophobia. They don't want anyone getting it. hence the magical lock, the the buttload of traps, the hidden location.

I'll look into it. I'm forming a theory around that regarding attack patterns and the xenophobia. I'm off for some field research.

Here's my thoughts so far...

Terraria research into general lore and history.

Part 1: Lizhard technology and culture.

Lizhards are a bipedal species of what are assumed to be lizards. Perhaps evolution carried them to this stage after human decline. Physiology can differ between the Lizhard people themselves and the flying snakes that accompany them. It is unknown whether they are a hot or cold-blooded species, but appear to be cold-blooded due to the types of technology they have. The Lizhard itself retained the tail of older species, most likely using it as balance and support. The modern Lizhard is hostile to any creature inside the temple they reside and attack with ferocity. They do not seem to use any weapons in this modern time, which is maybe a sign of social decline within the people, as they posses advanced technologies, like advanced...

Technology and Generation of power, like the aptly named Lizhard Power Cell, which uses the residual energy from a fallen star to power large structures. It is unknown how the Power cell draws power from a fallen star, or in what form fallen stars emit energy, whether from radiation, heat, or some other form.

Once upon a time, Cthulhu was good. He had been fascinated with the human race, by their tenacity and resolve. He swore to protect them, to help thme stake their claim in the universe. His disciples did not care. In their opinion, humanity was not fit to live. The strongest among them, the Moon Lord, saw that Cthulhu had 'died', and he was the new one. He sought to kill Cthulhu. He found a young and rash hero, and blessed him with ancient powers forbidden by Cthulhu. The hero found Cthulhu, and slayed him-almost. Rather than die, Cthulhu sent his spirit into a human, one whose bloodline would one day produce a hero to save the worlds form Moon Lord. Anyway, this hero took Cthulhu's empty body, and cut it up with the Moon Lord's help. He sent his eye to seek out the last vestiges of Cthulhu, his flesh to defend the spirits of light and dark, his brain thide and wait for fools. His blood became the Crimson, his bile became the Corruption. A parasite inside Cthulhu was found, and turned into the Eater of Worlds. The hero became the Lunatic Cultist, and built the Dungeon to hide away powerful spells and weapons. He took Cthulhu's skeleton, bound it to a curse, and cursed the clothier, creating Skeletron. Meanwhile, the Lizahrd evolved in the jungle, and the Cultist help create the Golem and the Jungle temple thourgh magic. Some excess power from the Golem seeped into a plant, whcih grew in power until it was sealed deep inside the jungle. Plantera. The Cultist wished to perfe ct some of his minions, so he created the Mechanical Bosses as portotypes and a gaurd for Plantera, as even he could not control it. He then went and locked the Moon Lord amongst trhe stars, causing them to slowly fall from the sky. Only if the 4 moons of Terraria are aligned can the Moon Lord escape, and eclipses and Blood Moons are his attempts to do so.

That's my theory for the complete timeline of Terraria. Feedback anyone?

what if plantera is the moon lords keeper of his corupt gardens and the old ones army were part of the people that cutulu adored
and when he fell the moon lord cursed them to serve and protect him from the hero/us by force
