For instance, if I want a simple Wooden Cabin, I'll get some Wood Walls (dur), maybe some Ebonwood Walls, some Glass, some Stone Brick Wall for the base, maybe some Wooden Beams...
... and I'll use Wood as the main "block."
I built a small building (seven rooms or so) using Ice Bricks as the main wall and Frozen Brick Walls, Snow Brick Walls, some Boreal Wood Walls, some Glass Walls, and some Boreal Wood Fences for outside. But Ice Bricks was the main block.
Also cram your houses with bookcases / shelving / pots / item frames / weapon racks / interesting bits of furniture. Bonus points for putting up items and weapons that dropped while you were building
