Expert Moonlord Question
I was wondering how different people prepare, and what you guys do prior to fighting him. What armor, what buffs, and what kind of arena, that sort of thing. I Have a corruption world, so I can't use the ichor debuff on him, sadly, and I've defeated Duke Fishron three times, including the first encounter of him in expert mode, surprising myself on how easy he was, yet dying two more times after that... yeah. I had trouble with Plantera for so long that I sorta raged quit (lol), but after a while I went in again and killed her like nothing. So yeah i am just wondering...

This is so relatable, it's not even funny.

Seems alright but I'm mainly asking what other's do... yeah I can surely cheese the entire fight, if I wanted to... but I don't wanna ruin the experience of finally beating the game in expert mode

I haven't beat him yet, but I have constructed a small pool of honey with a dome around it to block his laser. I also put a campfire, heart lantern, and I built a small room connected to my honey pool to house the nurse in so I can click on her and heal.

For Expert Moonlord potions make a huge different, so get some Endurance, Wrath/Rage, Life force and the Basic ones. Achso, any kind of arena helps, since none allows you to "Fall" into his beam once you wings are expired. Another way is using an circular Minecraft Track with the Mechanical Minecart, since its nearly fast enough to out run any of his attacks.
depends what armor youre using but usually on expert i use:
-mage=magic damage increasing and mana regeneration potions, mana flower, celestial cuffs, celestial emblem, worm scarf, mana regeneration band, and ankh shield for debuff and knockback protection for the most part. Also handy to keep wings, spectre shoes, and frozen turtle shell for when you need to dodge attacks or low on health and waiting for the health potion cooldown debuff to wear off.
the nebular fist is perfered over the arcane because it autolocks faster and its much stronger (mainly for single targets but it excels in any boss fight) also have a full set of spectre armor, with a spectre hood in the social slot. Dish out damage and swap when you need health. (also avoid the tenticle like the plague)
also use a crystal ball and bewitching table

post moonlord when you defeat him again
-full nebular armor and last prism EZ

-ranger=chlorophyte bullets, ammo reserve potion, ranger emblem, sniper scope, vortex blaster, basically swap out the mana items for ranger items but keep the wings boots and turtle shell in handy. Full set of shroomite armor with the helmet if im hopefully not mistaken to increase bullet damage (or the one that increases bullet damage)

post moonlord
-full vortex armor and the S.D.M.G. dolphin gun with your choice of lummite bullets for extra damage or auto lock chlorophyte bullets

melee
this one is a really big general area. There is quite alot for melee, you can use either sets of either beetle or turtle armor. Yoyos or the daybreak/solar eruptor are also viable (if you want dps use yoyo's and the yoyo bag). swap out the mage/ranger acessories for melee enhancing or tanking items. Since you're going melee, best use the sharpening station and any imbuding potions excluding ichor since the moonlord is immune to it (probably cursed flames are the best since they can't be extinguished, paired with the fire gauntlet you can deal 2 types of additional debuffs and damages when using melee).

post moonlord
-solar armor and again up to weapons that can be used, it doesn't matter but usually its terrarian for dps with the yoyo bag, the star wrath if you wanna focus on dodging, or the meowmere if you want the best of both world.

summoner
i wouldn't recommend this since summoner defense is rather weak and you'll most likely die before you get 1/2 to damaging the moonlord, but if i had to guess you were god -like at dodging, you can use
spooky armor full set, or any of the ethernian armors that affects minion summons/capacities swap out mage/ranger/melee accesoories you'd use for the past sections and instead use minion enhancing and extra minion summoing items. (pighmy necklace, celestial lunar emblem [thing that boosts your stats day or night] parapyus scroll )
the trick with the summoner is that your damage enhancers (excluding extra minion summoning items) only affect the initial summon, and minions can't deal crit damage. Also since its a boss fight, bosses aren't necessarily affected by knockback, so you can have minion summoning items based exclusively on damage and speed, while disregarding knockback, mana usage (you're only summoning them once) and critical damage boosters
best to use the stardust staff which again you can get by defeating the stardust pillar and using the pieces to craft the staff before you fight the moonlord.
after summoing your minions, you can swap out the minion and damage enhancing items (excluding the extra minion accessories like the pigmy necklace) for your wings and boots to better dodge the moonlords attacks and focus on more dodging/staying alive while your minion deals with the eyes and eventually heart.
summoning potion and featherfall potion

post moonlord=
stardust armor full set and crystal staff

there are several ways to take him on, some people use heart/mana star statues to generate infinte amounts of health and mana so you don't have to worry about dying/running out of magic ammo.
i perfer the railway system since if you defeated the mechanical bosses on expert (you obviously have to) and craft the mechanical cart you can outrun the moonlord with the exception of his middle lazer eye. That being said, its best to take out the center eye on his forehead to avoid the beam and focus on the other eyes afterwards making him easier to kill.
you should use for any loadout defense enhancing potions (ironskin and endurance potions) power enhancing potions (rage and wraith potions) inferno potions if you find them in the shadow chests or obtain the hot rod fishing pole lava pole thing tofishinlava. If you mage craft super mana potions and if you have enough celestial pieces left, craft some super healing potions to better deal with health loss (greater healing potions are okay but its for precautionary reasons, people die right when the moonlord is at 70-10 health, and its because they needed alittle more health to survive one attack). gravity potions help alot, especially when he fires his lazer beam from the middle eye.
