corruption mechanics and barrier construction
Hey ppl. I'm new to the game any one know of how to stop corruption in a expert world pre-hardcore mode. I have a 3 block gap around the corruption do I need to put a background as well? I also have a containment wall to stop the mobs from spreading the corruption in hardcore mode. is there any info or posted that you can help me with?

you need a 5 gap of hole and 3 blocks in the ground and make it wood or mud

3 block gap is the only thing that is require to stop the stuff from spreading. Additionaly, some of the plant growth can spread, so that is what the 5 block gap is for, with non corruptable blocks on the sides, but still a 3 block gap in the middle.

I'd suggest waiting until you get to Hardmode, THEN building the barrier. There's a good chance that the corruption/hallow will spawn on both sides of the barrier, and then there's no point.
Anyways, how to build a very protected Corruption/Crimson/Hallow barrier:
This is to keep corruption/crimson from ever crossing this barrier.
-Dig a 3 block wide hole all the way to the Underworld.
-Line the corrupted side with something like hay, wood, or another non-corruptible block. Mud will not work, contrary to popular belief, due to corruption slowly converting it to dirt.
-Extend the lining by 3 or 4 blocks above the surface, to ensure the thorny bushes not corrupting the other side.
-Use wood or other nice-looking blocks at the top, to keep it from looking terrible.
if you wanna do an easier job heres what you can do:
-get 2 other friends or people
-each person digs 2 blocks across right next to each other for a total of 6 block gaps
-after a while of digging one of you uses a hammer to destroy the walls
there you should be able to contain the corrupt
best to dig about halfway to hell or until you hit lava since after hardmode the corruption spreads deeper underground

Walls do not conduct corruption at all, so you don't really have to do anything with them.

Other than that, it is what others said already: 3 block guaranteed gap, preferably lined with uncorruptible blocks to avoid grass or vines appearance that may conduct corruption.

By the way, if you want to dig fast and a lot, use dynamite. Either normal one if you dig down, or convert it to sticky.

use a 3 block wide wall of grey brick, make it a bit higher then ground level(3-4 tiles or so)if theres corruption thorns near it,if not,i think you can make it at ground level,or just run around with purification powder and cleanse it completely,if you want the items from it then make a biome box(a box made out of uncorruptable material with corruption locked inside)
