Multicolor Wrench not working?

Everywhere I can read that you simply right click to make a menu pop up where you select the colored wire of your choice or even cut wires, but for me it just simply drops it on the ground or places wires ._.
I tried changing my control keys in case that was the problem, but still nothing.
Googled it, nothing either.

Am I missing something here..?

You have to have it in your hotbar, not holding it from the inventory.

Yeah it is like the portal gun and all the new dungeons defenders weapons with a second mouse click effect. Needs to be equipped or you just toss it to the nearest player
