As you may guess, you can't trap birds generated from a statue - they vanish.

If you want statues, make a new world, grab a DCU and 30 Spelunker / Hunter / Dangersense (the Hunter is very useful for revealing enemies = revealing caverns), and just mine the lower half of the world away for statues.
