Destroyer trouble

Just got attacked by the destroyer and it wrecked me completely

I have full titanium armor and a titanium sword, and an arena of wooden platforms that are fairly high

Initially it didnt seem too tough, I was waiting for it to speed up then jumping or dropping out of the way and slashing it as it went past, it seemed to take heavy damage from each swing

However, I was getting hit with a bazillion lasers for 50 damage everytime they hit plus some probes that were shooting too, I drank a health potion but it was only down 10k hp when I died

I've looked at youtube videos but they've all got super gear that are beyond the destroyer and heart statues which I've never been able to find. Apparently this is the easiest boss and I'm using the best gear available but I just have no idea what else I can do against this thing, any ideas?

Current gear:
Titanium Sword (legendary)
Titanium Repeater with Jester and Frostfire arrows
Titanium armor
Angel Wings
Armored Band of Regeneration
Obsidian Shield
Frostfire Boots
Hasty Cloud in a Bottle

400HP, 200 MP

Arena:
Wood platforms 8 levels high and 2 screens wide, each of which is 3 times the height of my character. Covered in campfires but no statues yet

It seems The Destroyer was buffed, the information is all outdated now and videos of people in top tier equipment facetanking it just isnt useful :(

the best way to kill the destoryer before having equipment after it is to use the onyx blaster, pheonix blaster or daedalous storm bow and the best ammo you have. Also try to get range damage boosting armor and equipment.
Equipment to use:
Armor:
Best is either titanium or adamantite.
If you are going for the bow use frost armor(get from killing ice golems and crafting with ice core and adamitite)

Ranged accessories:
Ranger eblem
Avenger emblem
Magic quiver(for use with daedaluas storm bow)
Health boosting items eg charm of myths or regen band
Obsideon shield
Wings
(recraft these if you can to be precise)

Weapons:

daedalus storm bow is the most powerful if you are using hell fire or jesters arrows with the frost armor. It can take down the destroyer in 20 seconds flat or less. Also it destroys those pesky probes. Obtain it by killing hallow mimics found in hallow or summoned by putting a light key in an empty chest.

Pheonix blaster is crafted with handgun(found in dungeon chests) and hellstone bars. It is not as good as the bow or onyx blaster, but deals fire damage.

Onyx blaster
Crafted with shotgun, dark shards and soul of night. It is the best gun you can get at this stage.

Arena:
Build a platform hovering high in the air, then build a house with platforms for roofs. get the nurse to move in and build platforms around the area to run accross and stand on. use heart lanterns(for regen), sunflowers(for keeping enemies away) and camp fires. Use this arena by circling around from the bottom to top of the arena and back down to avoid the main attacks whilst constantly shooting it. When health drops to 50% drop down into the nurses home and heal yourself. Repeat this and it should be very easy.

Potions:
Archer potion(only for bow load out), hunter(not neccessary, but allows you to see vanished sntries),iron skin potion, regen potion, haste, and thorns
Note it can still be done with out the potions, but it makes victory more certain.

A really helpful potion that wasn't mentioned is heartreach, the probes drop heart pretty often during the fight. That combined with an Ironskin can be very effective.

The flamethrower is also a pretty good weapon for the Destroyer fight.

As for accessories - Keep the boots. Mobility accessories ftw.
- Get better wings, farm the jungle for Bee/Butterfly wings (Items to craft them are dropped by Moss Hornet/Moth), or hunt Ice Golems in the snow biome during blizzards (when it is raining in other biomes) to get the Ice Feather for Frozen Wings. These can be acquired before killing any of the mech bosses.
- Upgrade that cloud in a bottle to a Cloud in a Balloon. This will give you extra flight height and a jump-start, although with this particular one, you must double-jump while you take off in order to start flying, if you don't want to do that then find a different Balloon+Bottle combination accessory. Other ones include the Sandstorm/Tsunami/Blizzard in a Bottle you can look up how to get.
- That shield is not the most essential accessory in the game, if you really wanted to, you could replace it with something that gives a far more useful mechanic.
- Get a dps emblem, they drop from the Wall of Flesh.

Also, don't bother with trying to use any debuff-enhanced weapons. The Destroyer is immune to all debuffs, so it won't matter, and there would usually be a better alternative that pierces. I'm talking about the arrows, only use jester, and for bullets, go exploding or crystal. Just be careful with the exploding ones, they hurt you too.

Some more tips...i really don't think you can just stand there and facetank the thing, a sword is a pretty bad weapon to use against the Destroyer because of how you have to stay not only REALLY close to it but also can't move too much, which makes you vulnerable to lasers. You have to dodge them just like the other 2 mech bosses. Flying fast in a single direction can leave most of the laserfire behind, and the probes need to be dealt with or they will wreck you.

You don't need a very complicated arena, at most just build a single-block wide dirt tower with occasional gaps and branches of wood platforms. That was all i needed to defeat it, since lasers can be blocked by solid blocks. Just hide behind a wall when it starts going crazy with the lasers, this is also a good time to kill probes that have spawned.

Destroyer is an absolute joke if done properly and impossible if done improperly.

First off, he deals rather large contact damage (especially on Expert) but is bad at hitting you. Build the classic platform arena and you should be fine to fight him.

Secondly, his insane HP means you must have mass piercing weapons.

Thirdly, what's your Headpiece on your armor? No matter your class use the Melee variant as the extra defense will help you hugely as opposed to a measly 10% damage increase. What is it, about ten for ranged and twenty for melee?


Current gear:
Titanium Sword || Absolute garbage for this fight. It really is.
Titanium Repeater with Jester || Very good. Use this and you should be good enough to murder him before dawn comes. You may also want to consider Holy Arrows.
Frostfire arrows || Now outclassed by Ichor/Cursed arrows. There is no reason why you should have these. Furthermore, none of these are piercing = it's very difficult to kill him.

No Nimbus Rod? I am pretty sure you can kill Destroyer with the Nimbus Rod and no other weapon - just summon the clouds, fire-and-forget.

Titanium armor || good good, just get the melee helmet

Angel Wings || They're okay I guess, but try getting some better wings - especially Ice or Leaf wings (check the wiki[terraria.gamepedia.com])
Armored Band of Regeneration || Not too bad
Obsidian Shield || You should be able to upgrade this to Ankh for bonus defense, but that's not neccessary
Frostfire Boots || Frostpark you mean, and yep that should be fine.
Hasty Cloud in a Bottle || Garbage. Total trash. Worse than the Titanium Sword. This is hopelessly outclassed by Wings. Get yourself another nice accessory, even if it's just a damage increasing one.

I would highly reccomend slaughtering Mimics for a Cross Necklace. That literally halves the damage you take if you can't dodge. And that's what everyone will be using to facetank it.

Also consider building some vertical platforms that you can grapple to in a tight spot to dodge an attack.

Facetanking the Destroyer is absurdly difficult. The reason it's done is because it's absurdly quick if done properly.

I would suggest killing a bunch of crimson mimics until you get fetid baghnaks (or however they are spelled), which are perfect for this task. Each section would count as a seperate hitbox, dealing max damage.

I've killed all 3 bosses on my friends server and we're getting life fruit and green bars but I'll still need to solo these things in my own time and this is really good advice :)

some items that can help you.

the basilisk mount, if you use it right the destroyer wont damage you, even if you clash directly with his head, because the basilisk mount will make you inmune to damage the same way the slime one will and this can be abused.

bundle of ballons, this will give you A LOT of movility in mounts (basilisk) but you should pair it with an item that gives you fall damage inmunity.

daedalus stormbow with holy arrows, four arrows that fall from the sky and each one shots stars that fall from sky, for the cost of one arrow.

asphalt, you only need a flat land with asphalt as an arena

This. I've used the Stormbow with Frost Wings and Frost armour to beat all three mech bosses with little difficulty. A good strategy is to wait for the Destroyer to attack, then fly over it and land. Then repeat.

Easy way to get the Deadalus Stormbow is using The Key of Light that is craftable. When placed inside of an empty Chest, it will spawn a Hallowed Mimic. Kill it to get the bow. That's what i did to kill all 3 mech boss.

This is correct. A word of caution, the biome mimics are fairly powerful, so bring a few potions.
