And yes, they admitted themselves that this update is for all intents and purposes worthless. It gives a few UI tweaks and I think two new peices of furnature or something like that? The bit of news from RELogic that turns my stomach is that line where they tell us that this update is simply so they can do "secret updates". Which is basically what this was. Which means this will continue to happen.
All our characters are still in the folders, but we can't use them until ModLoader updates. And then all the mods we were using update. Thinking of playing any more Terraria at this point makes me sick to my stomach knowing that at any unannounced time we will have a secret update and be left for days to weeks without our worlds while the modders play catch up.
Nonsense like this is what made mod launchers so popular in Minecraft. I'd love to find one for Terraria.
this is how i know you are messing something up, classic nooby mod mistake, modded player/world files are located in a subfolder. there is a tmodloader tutorial on my page, read it
So in other words, it is your choice to use mods and you get annoyed for free content. You can also turn auto updates off for each game individually.

ATTENTION! Don't ask about tModLoader updating to 1.3.5, it'll be a while....trust me. Your Players and Worlds are fine! They are safe! If you want to restore tModLoader functionality, I have been given permission to post this little "Compatibility Pack" since a few files were change in the 1.3.5 update. (Don't post this elsewhere or I get in trouble.) Simply open up the Steam Terraria folder, usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Terraria", and drag the contents of this zip into it, replacing files when asked. (If you aren't asked to overwrite, you did it wrong.) This will, of course, break vanilla 1.3.5, so if you want to go back to vanilla, use Steam to verify integrity of game cache. You will, of course, also need to re-install tModLoader as normal as well.
Mac/Linux users: You might need your own fix, not sure.(edited)
