Iron Fences as walls

Quite simply, do Iron Fences count as walls?

For context, I kept reworking an enclosed area with stone slabs, stone slab walls, boreal wood, and iron fences to try and keep monsters from spawning in.

Soon after, I tested a simple wooden perimeter rectangle with the area filled in with iron fences and yet the game still said that there was no wall there for some reason.

I checked the Terraria Wiki and it says that Iron Fences are indeed walls, but as can be expected there is little to no useful information.

Well, the wiki is rather poor for information from what I've seen. I'd much rather use the gamepedia page. According to that, it was changed to not be a valid wall in 1.2.4
