Creating artifical biome lakes
I am currently pre hardmode and looking for information on the specific size(s) that artificial lakes need to be. I have searched discussions and either missed /or/ the thread is missing.

If on a medium world, what are the correct dimensions (width & height) for each lake I am looking to create. To expedite the fishing quests, I may create lakes above / under ground clustered closer to the quest giver. I am especially having a hard time with the fish caught in floating islands. I have created 2 lakes thus far and must have the build sizes incorrect because fishing from both has yielded no quest fish.
If you have created an artificial sky lake and were able to obtain the quest fish, please share your specs.

if anyone has an easier method of how to cluster several fishing biomes in a smaller area, I'd like to hear the idea.
thanks fisherman

Making controlled biomes can work. You can combine Ice and Corruption/Hallow/Crimson, Cavern and Corruption/Hallow/Crimson, and Jungle and Cavern, to my knowledge. There could be more combinations. I do know that Hallow and Crimson/Corruption will not work together. A good set up would be a few different "rooms" with lakes of sufficient size and with each combination of biomes.

Forming these lakes would be the hard part. Since you're pre-hardmode, you don't get access to the Infinite Water Bucket. Pumps and the Grand Design can fix this. Find a very large lake or one of the Oceans to take water from. Put an Inlet Pump in the place where you want to take water, and put an Outlet Pump in the place where you want to put it. Use your Grand Design to connect them with wire. Place a 1 Second Timer at the place where you want to put water, so you can stop the flow when you're satisfied with the water amount. Repeat until your source is empty or you have satisfied your water needs. Then place the needed blocks to form the biome. Make sure that it doesn't spread, keep the blocks away from others.

The Depth Meter will assist you, it tells you if you're in a Cavern, in the Underground, or on the Surface. For the sky fish, just make it on a sky island or lake.

The Angler tells you the height and area where you need to go to find your Quest fish.

75 blocks are needed to make fishing possible, but 300 blocks are needed to have no penalty. This can be countered with better rods, bait, and certain buffs/accessories.

Lastly, I suggest going for the Fish Finder. It displays information that is valuable for fishing. I wish you luck, fishing can bring great rewards!

I'm planning on improving a Ice/Cavern/Hallow setup to include Corruption, I'll show you a picture when I finish if you'd like.

I have not killed WoF yet so I'm still in pre-hardmode. I forgot to mention I really do not need the inlet / outlet for water since I am able to fill up any space. I just needed the specs on the total area or how many blocks across and depth of the actual water space. In other words I needed to know the amount of area I need to fill in order to not have a penalty and catch the required quest fish for that area. In your prev post you stated 300 blocks (area) so the area I would need to construct would be 75 blocks x 75 x 75 x 75 ...
am I on the right path given that 300 from your post?

The minimum lake size to have no penalty is 300 tiles of water. Its dimensions could be 10 x 30, 15 x 20, or anything that adds up to at least 300 tiles. (I always make it a little bigger just in case.) However, the spaces only count if they are below the width of the surface of the body of water. For a lake to be considered a certain biome, you need a certain number of that biome's blocks near your character. I think it's normally 100 blocks of whatever type, but 200 for mushroom biomes. Also note that the biome that counts for fishing may be different than the one that you hear music for.

The fishing wiki page[terraria.gamepedia.com] has more details on fishing biomes, plus a pic of how it counts water tiles.
