UPDATE 2 (closed): TY all for assistance. sereyanne gave me a replacement. Didn't find the original yet and not sure if I ever will, but I'll post back if I do! ;)

As for the "valuable" items that were in there, it was actually far worse than I expected. I think the best thing in there was literally a single demonite ore. ;) gg!

It's a Defender's Forge, not just a forge forge.

i think i placed it somewhere while exploring. i've been a good sport about it for a few days but I'm starting to get a little impatient/concerned. i think i know roughly what area it's in and i'm going to continue looking for it, but a few questions that have come to mind about how the thing actually works:

True or False:

1. if it was Placed then it got saved in that spot when i saved & exited my game.

2. if it was just laying around in the world, not Placed, then it got lost when i saved & exited my game.

3. if it fell into lava or got hit by flowing lava when not Placed, it got burnt up.

(What happens if lava hits it when it's placed?)

4. when placed, it gives off a light of its own i.e. it acts as a light source e.g. if it was underwater in the dark i would see it lit up.

5. there are 3rd party tools available that can analyze a savegame or map and tell me the exact coordinates where i left it.

(If not, then any tools etc. provided would be helpful.)

What you said about player-bound inventory is actually the most hopeful thing I've read in this thread.

Basically sounds like all I need to do is acquire a new DF and the only thing I'd be out is my original DF. I was trying to avoid grinding the defender's medals again but even that would be a relatively small price to pay. I have a decently fast method. Grind is grind tho.

OTOH I have spent the last 2 days exploring and finding a lot of other cool stuff. Took my world hardmode etc. Would not be surprised if I open the DF and find stuff that was far more exciting 3 days ago ... cobweb & glowsticks, etc.... ;)

I don't even bother with the dungeon defenders thing till after hardmode. for the gear
