How to get a research artifact?

what do they look like? is there a hint somewhere?

I've raid a couple monkey bases and all I got was extra dwarves

the artifact is barely not visible
you open the stock panel and click the search on the ground icon then artifact
you can buy them when some trader visit you about 1/3 of the toime they sell it for 3000
