Can't run on Windows 10 because of DirectPlay
When I try to run the game a message appears saying I need to install DirectPlay, if I click Install the process says the installation failed so I can't play. If I click on Dont Install I can't play neither. Any solution? This started when I updated to W10.

That's too bad. It worked straight for me and I'm on W10 Pro x64, just clicked "Install DirectPlay" in the message. This is on a clean install of W10. My guess is it has something to do with admininstrator rights as AOE3 did ask for them while starting the game for the first time.

go to steam\steamapps\common\Ages of Empire 3\bin
Right click on age3, check compatibility to "windows seven", launch game and Directplay goes install et the game run.

I got mine to work by going ton Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off, opening Legacy Components> clicking Directplay > Hit ok

If that does not work, try turning off your antivirus (and I hear Skype too). I had avast, and after I disabled it it worked for me.

The suggestion to temporarily disable Avast Antivirus fixed the issue for me. Right click the Avast icon in the system tray, click "Avast Shields Control" and then disable for however long you need.

//////

I spend 2 hours to solve this
All you have to do is :

Open system
Apps and programm
Windows feature
Activate the folder (legacykomponent) with direct play
