Age of Empires 3 Initialisation failed (Windows 10) 64 Bit
I know that its a common problem but I tied:

1. using compatibility mode it windows XP service pack 3 and running in administrator mode (didn't work)

2. Enabling Legacy Components and DirectPlay. (Which made it worse when in started but my screen turns blue and stays that way.)

So any advice would help.

Definitely keep DirectPlay enabled and try out different settings with the compatibility mode:
- no compatibility mode
- Vista SP2 compatibility mode

Open Turn Windows features On or Off > Find Legacy components > Tick Both > Press OK.

Now try run the game again

@MickLee I tried that and as I said it opens but the screen turns blue and I can't do anything but force a restart on my computer and I waited 15 minutes and still nothing.

Go to the library, click properties, Local files, verify integrity of files and check if AOE is missing a file. When its done it should let you know if it is. Re-instal the game if theres a file missing.

@Suhhs There was only one file that failed to validate so I don't know what file that is or if its the cause of my problem.

Well, let Steam download that files, which it should do automatically, and then try running the game again.

@Turbo Nozomix I tired reinstalling it but still 1 file that failed to validate so how would I get steam to fix that file?

- open Control Panel
- Programs
- "Turn Windows features on or off"
- Open folder called Legacy Components
- Toggle DirectPlay
