What are the small squares at the edges of the habitats?

These small squares are a record of your round. If you gain food in a move, you will notice this small square next to forest icon after you finish the move- it basically shows a "move" dice moving through a forest region, going through each bird and its corresponding action and ending up here on the left.

When a player plays a card, be it in any region, that is denoted next to the purple square. Say, if a round has 8 moves, at the end of the round the player will have accumulated 8 small squares on the left side.
