black screen on startup

I keep trying to start up the game but it just comes up with a black screen and a fancy looking mouse cursor. Any help?

I had the same problem. Go into the Fable 3 files and find the support files. Find and double click gfwlsteup.exe. It may come up and say there are compatibility issues. If so, click on get online help and follow links to download updated gfwl. Before installing, check to make sure there are no other versions of GFWL installed. If there are, uninstall them then install the downloaded version. Then leave GFWL running and start Fable 3. The in-game GFWL should pop up and ask for CD/Product key. Enter it if it does not automatically fill it in then enjoy the game.

GfWLPKSetter is this it when i try to open it a black box appears and instantly closes i cant do anything with it :(

What version of Windows are you using? I am using W8 Pro, and everyone says that this fix is bogus, but it worked for me. These are actually the instructions from Microsoft. I had to do it twice, because I missed one of the GFWL programs during uninstall. Carefully scan for another GFWL program in the uninstall list just to make sure. Let me know what happens and I'll try and help.

It seems that gfwl has installed fine, and it has already asked for the product key but it still won't work.

Have you tried a restart of the system since it accepted the Key? If not try that, and before launching the game, try starting GFWL and then booting the game. I'll see what other tricks we can try.

When you say games for windows live do you mean the marketplace thing because thats all it seems to have installed for me :/ .

How to fix Games for Windows Live on Windows 8 Pro x64
Ironic Fact: GFWL doesn’t really work with Windows 8 Pro x64.

Good Fact: it’s not that difficult to fix.

If GFWL isn’t working for you (best way to check is play a GFWL game and see if you can bring up the home menu. If not, it’s broken) here’s what to do.

NOTE: YOU MUST MUST MUST DO THESE STEPS EXACTLY. DON’T SKIP ON REBOOTING OR ANYTHING. ALSO MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE I’VE LINKED TO, AND NOT ANY OTHER VERSION OF GFWL.

1\ uninstall both “Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable” AND “Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace”

2\ reboot

3\ download the GFWL installer from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient

4\ IMPORTANT: Right click the above installer, go to properties and change its compatibility to “Windows 7”. Save and exit.

5\ IMPORTANT: Right click the installer, and choose “Run as administrator”

6\ After it’s installed, run the GFWL game again. It should now work fine and redownload your profile.

Steps 4 and 5 are really, REALLY, REALLY important.

Yep, I was just about to post that. If you are running W7 set the compatability to Windows XP Service Pack 3

Follow those instruction that Romnus posted, but if you have GFWL working when booting up F3 and the bar comes up in the game then all you have to do is set the compatability mode. I just tried that and it works without going through the uninstall/ reinstall. I hope this works.
