Fix for Fable 3 not even launching
Hey everyone, I just bought the game only to find that when I start it, it just wouldn't even load. I've seen that it's a common issue for a few people and after doing some playing around I've come to a solution possibly.

After learning that the game needs to use this whole GFWL rubbish I tried to launch it (Games for Windows: Marketplace) only to find that it gave an error upon loading, saying that there was a component of windows disabled or something along those lines. I figured this may be what was causing the game to simply not even load. The first thing I tried seems to have worked for me.

Go to the folder that GFWL is located and go into the 'client' folder. Inside that folder are two .exe files named 'GFWLClient' and 'GFWLive'. You want to right click these two files and go to properties. In the properties window, click compatibility and then tick the box that says 'Run this program as an administrator'. Hopefully this works for all of you that are having this issue!

This worked for me and I can now play the game. I'm on windows 7 64bit so I'm unsure if this is a universal fix or not.

Good luck!

I had the same problem last night, found the same solution, but you can just do it from your Start bar after expanding All Programs instead of diggin through folders. Reportedly, this also works on Windows 8. Not terribly fond of GFWL, but I can deal with it as long as I can still play. Make sure you have the latest version of the client, 3.5.whatever.

Okay so if anyone is trying to get Fable 3 working and GFWL is giving you a headache. It seems that Fable 3 Steam version tries to install an older version of GFWL.

Go into the G4WL folder in Program Files (x86) on your C:\ drive and in the Client folder set both exe's to run as administrator.

Then exit the steam client and make sure you only have one version of GFWL installed.

If the older version is installed then uninstall it.

You have to be exited out of Steam to uninstall it.

Now with the latest version of GFWL ONLY installed Run Fable 3 from Steam again and sign in.

If it doesn't let you sign in then uncheck the box for remember password and put your password in and recheck the box and also check the box for sign in automatically.

Allow the client to run its silly update.

Exit GFWL when it tells you to.

The update should now run.

Relaunch Fable 3 from Steam.

Profit.

wish i knew how to do that... why is it always too much trouble to put things out there as a step by step tutorial?
