Fable III

Fable III

Reinstalled and Product Key not working?
This is a conversation with Microsoft after the forums on Steam did not help. Reinstalling GfWL did not help. It still states the product key is in use. I don't have another GfWL account. According to Microsoft, they turned over all games needing GfWL to Steam and this is an issue for Steam to correct. So I put in a ticket I hope in the appropriate manner. I'd rather keep the game and get my DLC working. But on this particular title, I don't think the left hand knows what the right is doing. So who handles the support if it's not Microsoft, Lionsgate, or Steam?

Hello, thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Support. My name is Acelyn. Please give me a moment to review your question.

Acelyn: at 15:25:00
Hi there Thomas.

Acelyn: at 15:25:25
As you mentioned you are having issue with your 5 dlc's that is not working, correct?

Thomas: at 15:26:14
Correct

Thomas: at 15:26:42
It's not even accepting the games product key when I attempt to log into windows live.
Thomas: at 15:26:56
And I know I cannot get access to the DLC unless I sign in.

Acelyn: at 15:30:21
Thanks for that information.

Acelyn: at 15:30:42
There is actually an issue with the DLC's you've purchased from Steam, correct?

Thomas: at 15:33:36
The game and DLC's themselves. The game and DLC's were purchased October 8th, 2011. I reinstalled the game to play it again and the games product key is not working. It states it's "In Use".

Thomas: at 15:34:44
Upon reading the forums, the only way to get the DLC I purchased is by signing into Windows Live. The game and/or Windows Live states the product key is in use and states I've signed in in "offline" mode, which doesn't give me access to my DLC.

Acelyn: at 15:37:17
Oh, Thanks for all that information Thomas.

Acelyn: at 15:40:37
Just a heads up, games for Windows live is being supported by Steam and since you actually bought the game from them, I would suggest that you will need to contact Steam since they do have the access and control with games on windows live and we actually don't have access on their system. No worries, they will be able to manually fix this on their end since they are the one who is handling cases like this,.

Thomas: at 15:41:41
So you're saying that steam has access to GfWL? Why was I directed to you by them then?

Thomas: at 15:41:54
If they could fix this manually, why didn't they?

Thomas: at 15:42:36
Is there a reference to give them or a link you can provide for me to better tell them how to assist me? Becuase I mentioned Windows Live and they sent me to you, now you are sending me back to them.

Acelyn: at 15:45:12
Oh,I do understand you Thomas. And Just like you I am a customer and a gamer myself, I would feel the same if I were in the same situation as you are. Actually, Windows live and games for windows live is handling by Steam. And we xbox chat support agent only supports console issues and game issues for xbox console.

Thomas: at 15:46:03

All the links related to Windows Live links me to the xbox page.

Acelyn: at 15:46:18
Anyway, you don't need to worry. Let me provide you a reference number as a proof that you already contacted us and since I already documented everything here. You don't need to repeat yourself all over again and they will also have the reference about this issue. How's that?

Thomas: at 15:47:58
It'll be your reference number. Does steam have access to that reference number and are able to view the ticket? What do I say to steam support exactly? Microsoft states you operate Windows Live on Games bought from Steam that use that service and Steam is the only ones who can fix this issue?

Thomas: at 15:48:25
https://help.steampowered.com/#HelpWithGameIssue/?appid=105400&issueid=106 This is the limit of their support on the issue, simply a refund button.

Thomas: at 15:50:34
Also in the forums, players state reinstalling GfWL fixes the issue. I have Windows 10 and the most up to date version. Where is their support. Steam isn't offering the support you say I need.

Acelyn: at 15:52:02
I do understand you. However, Games for Windows live markerplace is no longer available and since GMFWL has been discontinued then all the game for windows live was already transferred to Steam.

Thomas: at 15:52:45
So Steam owns GfWL now?

Thomas: at 15:54:00
I'm confused. Why is Windows Live attached to my windows account then with Xbox written all over it? There is no mention of Steam, Anywhere....

Thomas: at 15:59:43
It worked! Go to control panel and uninstall EVERYTHING that has to do with Games For Windows Live (GFWL and GFWL Marketplace). Download and install the newest GFWL from here[www.xbox.com] (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/PC/DownloadClient). Log in with you Microsoft / GFWL account.

Thomas: at 15:59:55
Is that method a way of solving the issue?

Acelyn: at 16:00:10
Alright, to make sure of everything here. Support for GfWL is not being handled by our system. We don't have any option to see or access any tool for GfWL. And GfWL has been discontinued almost years ago and since all the games for Windows live came from Steam. Then we transferred all the GfWL to Steam now. I hope you understand.

Thomas: at 16:00:22
as you can see, an XBOX link. so I don't the the left hand knows what the right is doing here...

Thomas: at 16:01:37
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/PC/DownloadClient <<<< This link isn't handled by you or Xbox or Microsoft?

Thomas: at 16:03:30
What is the reference number for this ticket?

Acelyn: at 16:03:57
Oh, That's Great! Sorry for the all the confusion. And the link you have provided is already not working years ago. It is no longer available on our end.

Thomas: at 16:04:29
That link is working. Clicked on it and everything.

Acelyn: at 16:04:33
As much as I love to do everything here for you, since like you I am a customer and a gamer myself, I would feel the same if I were in the same situation as you are. However, we actually don't have any option or way to support cases like this anymore.

Thomas: at 16:04:57
What is this tickets reference number?

Acelyn: at 16:05:53
I know that the link can be access. What I mean is, we don't support Games for Windows live because we xbox chat support only handle issues about console or any concerns about xbox console and games.

Acelyn: at 16:07:35
Here's your reference#: ****************

Acelyn: at 16:08:30
If only I can provide all the things that you need, I would by all means. But I can only do so much, I hope you understand. And I'm glad we chatted and that your issue has been resolved.

Acelyn: at 16:08:38
Thanks for your kind understanding!

Thomas: at 16:08:53
My issue has not been resolved.

Thomas: at 16:09:01
But you say you have done what you could.

info: at 16:09:22
Your chat transcript will be sent to **********.com at the end of your chat.

Acelyn: at 16:10:50
Oh,I though your issues has been solved since you mentioned "It worked!" Anyway, even if I tried all the things that I can do here. We don't have access to Windows Live or Games for Windows live Support. And it is all being handled by Steam.

Acelyn: at 16:11:04
You can always contact us if ever you need help with your Xbox. Is there anything else I can help you with?

Thomas: at 16:11:53
No that was from a post to show you the xbox link and why I contacted you in the first place.

Acelyn: at 16:13:29
Oh I do understand you, as I mentioned earlier. The game for window live has been discontinued years ago and that's why that link is not working anymore. Anyway. Thanks for your kind understanding and I really do appreciate your patience.

Buddy... if you have issues with DLC only and you can play the core game, you are doing it all wrong.

You already played the game right? That means you already activated your DLCs back when you were playing it.

Here is what you need to do:

Unstall GFWL: all of it, market place, games for windows, everything you find
then use the link you already have (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient) and download new marketplace client
Log in to the client and via client download your DLCs (once again through the client, NOTtrough the game)
Next time you start the game, DLCs will be waiting for you in the gift shelf of your sanctuary

If this will work for you, no need to thank me. I would rather welcome the ingame company :P

Cheers!

Buddy, I've seen your posts in the other forums and this solution does not work for me. Nothing is showing up.
Raywhisper Aug 29, 2015 @ 4:54am
There should be download section in the marketplace client.
ttv.siriusgaymer Aug 29, 2015 @ 5:10am
It won't even allow me to sign in with my product key. Say's it's in use. Microsoft stated Steam has to do something manually, what that is I don't know, but they now say all GfWL games and their control was handed to Steam.

I reinstalled GfWL client via the Microsoft website - XBox - and that didn't fix the issue. So I'm waiting to hear from Steam on the issue. Microsoft and Lionshead isn't any help with this. Apparently, they say it's Steam's issue to fix.

That's why I posted my conversation with the Microsoft rep. Any other ideas I'll greatly try, please do let me know!
Raywhisper Aug 29, 2015 @ 7:19am
Well I dont have any more ideas sadly. I installed the gmae two days ago again and everything worked fine, just had to do the gfwl reinstall for DLCs. :(

So, I just got out of chat with Microsoft for the same thing and this was their response. Microsoft doesn't seem to have a clue as to what is going on.

Chris: What is going on with users of Games for Windows Live and the games that were purchased through that service, such as Fable III, and Dawn of War II. Will we ever have access to our games and dlc again, or are we simply out of luck and our money wasted?

Kevin M: Just to clarify, are you able to see this game your store?

Chris: I'm referring to the PC versions of the game, rather than the console versions, as they operated through GFWL, which is a service that is no longer available through Microsoft, so the games are unplayable online and none of their dlc can be downloaded

Kevin M: Okay I see, thank you for the clarification. Okay just want to set your expectation that I may not be too familiar with your current issue with games for windows live. But as for the changes that you've experienced I can give you the FAQ's for your question.

Kevin M: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/PC/FAQ

Kevin M: Thank you so much for your time here today. I do hope that you might find the answer's on your question on that FAQ. Thank you again, is there anything else I can assist you for the meantime?

Chris: So...according to that, GFWL is still active? I'm a bit confused now, but I'll give it a try and see if it works.

Kevin M: Okay no worries, thank you so much for understanding over this matter. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

Chris: No, nothing else

Kevin M: Okay thank you for that and take care.

Kevin M: If that was everything, I'd like to thank you again for contacting Xbox Customer Support. To properly end the chat session, please click on the "Close chat" button on the upper right hand corner of the chat window. Have a wonderful rest of your day!

I'm on the same boat as you... Got the game, activated it once some time ago played a bit. Now tried to activate it again and says the key is already in use...

Wtf do I do? I'm using windows 10 but I have tried on windows 8.1 before. Already tried the solutions above it my marketplace is empty as if I haven't bought anything.
ttv.siriusgaymer Sep 7, 2015 @ 5:33am
Steam Support is unresponsive. Let me know if you get a hold of them. I'm never spending money of Fable games unless they are $10 or less.
ttv.siriusgaymer Sep 7, 2015 @ 5:37am
Then kindly don't say I'm doing it wrong. Thanks!

Okay so after about one month of talking with steam support, showing them proof of my purchase and print screens of my games library etc etc, they basically told me "Go bother GFWL, we're tired of your sh!t". I'm talking to Xbox support (As I did before talking to steam support and was told to contact steam support)

I guess I'll never see my money back... oh well... There's not much I can do... I'll keep you posted.

yep...

Just got off the phone with Microsoft Support and they told me that they verified that indeed my account doesn't have a fable 3 key associated with it.
They told me to try my gmail account which didn't have it either and to try and remember if I had any other people use my computer. Other than that they say that can do anything. Even if I give them the key they can't see who activated it. (Which would be a great help)

Edit.: Yep checks out, turns out I had my gmail account as a microsoft account. Once I accepted the new terms and conditions I logged in with my accound and it worked. Try using a microsoft account? Good luck

I have tried using my Windows log in as well. It's all good. I used alternate means to get my content out of steam. Thanks though for the help.
