Any way to play this without GFWL?
Just booted this game up, GFWL comes up, have to sign into it. I thought this was discontinued in 2013? Is there any way to just...boot this game up and play it without having to go through the asspain that is GFWL?

Download this, extract the xlive.dll file, and place it in main Fable III directory...

This will disable the Windows Live nonsense so that you can play the main offline single-player game. You won't have any of your paid-for-DLC but the main game is very playable. Been playing it maxed out and using an Xbox360/PC gamepad. Very nice experience since the last time I played it because back then I couldn't play it maxed out and now I can and the graphics are really good.

Hope this helps someone having issues. I know I wasn't able to get past the GFWL nonsense without this and sometimes I had a black screen with a yellow cursor. This brought the game right up. It starts off at a lower resolution so go into settings at the place where you choose your male/female hero and adjust your game settings to your liking.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro but this should work for Windows 8 and 8.1 just the same.

Yeah but the problem with that is, I WANT to play with the DLC that I spent money on. Honestly microsoft just boned us with this crap.

I never had any real problems with GFWL, even right now with Windows 10. Just installed the most recent GFWL client, started the Marketplace App, downloaded the DLC, started the game, everything works for me so far.

BTW: the only thing that really got discontinued was the store (and maybe the matchmaking stuff, but since i rarely play(ed) GFWL games in multiplayer at all, i can't say anything about that).

The day that GFWL is removed from this game is the day that I play it again. I refuse to install GFWL.

Ah cry more, such tasty tears. But yeah downloading the latest gfwl client lets you play just fine with any bought DLC.

No one is crying here, bub. There are just some of us that would prefer not to install crapware on our rigs.

I found this site on the web which has a file to insert which allows the game to bypass GFWL:

http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/

I had forgot my GFWL password and was unable to play Fable III before using the file.

Sidequestion: Anyone know if there are problems with the xbox 360 version? I have wanted to play this for PC but apparently this will never be fixed.

Will the disappearance of DLS affect the version from the disk?
