Fable III

Fable 3 on Steam Deck will not start up
Hey Everyone,

So I have Fable 3 on steam bought with a steak key. I also have put in the GFWL Remover so I can play it. It was running fine yesterday but now today, it won't even launch I get a "starting Launch" loop that won't even let me quit the game unless I power it down and restart it.

I do not even have the DLC installed. Nothing... Just the base game and yet this has happened and it hasn't just happened once, it's done this like 3 times and I have to redownload it to access it again and I lose my save. Any information will be greatly appreciated as this is one of my favorite games on steam deck.

This might sound like a not-needed comment, but I assure you it is.

Fable 3 already has difficulty running on a real computer. If you want the best quality and gameplay, as well as support, I suggest playing it on a Computer or Console.

Possible fix:
  • Use GE-Proton7-22
  • PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% in the launch options.
  • Delete Games for Windows Live folder in "steamapps/compatdata/105400/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/"
  • Install GFWL bypass in the Fable 3 root folder.
  • Install the DLC.

Possible fix 2:
Try running in Desktop mode first and then switch back.

There's a few more fixes floating around, but I highly suggest playing the game on something other than a Steam Deck. At it's current price and limited support as well as steam making users themselves actually fix their console it's best to avoid Steam Deck for games, such as Fable 3, that already have enormous amounts of issues on Console/Computers.
