Fable III

How to get 120/144fps?
For some reason, even after turning off the in game vsync, I am still capped at only 60fps. I have a 144Hz G-Sync monitor and 60fps gaming is way better than the 30fps on the console version, but I recal at one point seeing the game run at 144fps before when i've played it. I'm not sure why it would be capped at 60 now though.

the game was never built for high frequencies as it was built for the xbox 360. it supports 3d vision however.

I don't have the game installed currently, but the PCGamingWiki page on it has a few possible solutions, including running the game in a window rather than full screen mode.

You probably need to configure it in the control panel for your GPU. I use windowed mode without vsync for that. In many older games if you don't turn off vsync you won't get over 60fps even when your desktop resolution is set for more than 60hz
games usually have settings for frequency but, fable 3 was unfortunately never designed for running higher than 60 hz. maybe somebody could try to mod it, considering the fact that it is technically abandonware.

I figured it wasn't ever designed to run over 60FPS, and I am running it with vSync off. Honestly I'm okay with the game running at 60FPS. I simply was thinking that at one point in time I remember playing the game and seeing it run at 144FPS instead of 60. I decided to ask the question to see if it was a simple trick or something to get it to run that high, but if not it is okay.

So thanks for the comments everyone!

Yes you can run this game at 60+ FPS and frame limit the game to 120/144+ etc with RivaTuner which you can install as a bundle with MSI Afterburner. In RivaTuner add a game to the profile section of it (the game executable in the installed Fable III game folder and save the setting for this profile to the max refresh rate of your screen to stop image tearing. (As you'll need to disable V-Sync in the next step.)

You need to access your user account folder on the installed Windows drive which you'll find that in the Users folder. Then go to Appdata > Roaming > Lionhead Studios > Fable 3. There will be a file named as VideoOptions.xml (open this with notepad). Where it says <VSync type="bool">True</VSync> change the True to False.

Save the file, then run the game. The FPS when watching intro videos will be in 60 FPS then when it hits from the loading screen on... it will hit (in my case 120hz) your chosen refresh rate cap on the program from RivaTuner.

PS: There was absolutely no stuff ups with the physics in general and all the movement of characters and scenery. The only thing I noticed being affected was a very minor amount of visual eye candy effects (like your fireball spell) appearing like they were at 60 FPS but it wasn't game breaking or distracting.

But everything else is perfectly fine and hope this was helpful to the Fable III community.

So in RivaTuner, do I add a profile to Fable3.exe or Fable3Launcher.exe? Tried this method with Fable3.exe and still get a lot of screen tearing after setting framerate limit to 144. (monitor is 144hz LG G-Sync Monitor) What am I missing?

For anyone that is still trying to get higher then 60 fps, its not worth it. I have a 3900X paired with 3080, and at 1440 after doing posted above by Mr. Tokuoka I was only able to ink out twenty more fps, but what made maters worst was that I was having drops too the low twenty's making the game play feel sluggish and unresponsive.

i'm using " Borderless gaming" and limit the fps using the nvidia Control panel to 120 and the gaming working great with no problem at all
