Fable III

Fable III

Games for Windows Live, how you can get it working.
I got GFWL working on Windows 10 64-bit Home.

1) Verify account first with the OS.
2) The latest version of GFWL is 3.5.89, but the official website will not give you this version. I got the download from the error report saying this didn't install correctly: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=201134

Note: Your Microsoft account on windows 10 is also your GFWL account.
Note: I didn't need to run as admin, nor use compatibility settings.

I encountered two problems.

1) Black screen on start, changing the in-game resolution didn't work.
2) GFWL stand-alone client freezes on login. Which means I can't access or download my already bought DLC.

Update:

Fixed issue 1 by making sure I installed the stand-alone client first.
Fixed issue 2 by refreshing the install of windows 10

Game is running almost as when i bought it without the dll bypass mentioned in a comment below. Buying DLC (or downloading free DLC) and online multiplayer is literraly impossible though. If you bought or downloaded the free DLC before the servers went out you can still download them from the stand-alone client though. So I was able to get my DLC out of it after all.

Still, we did get the raw end of this deal with the missing multiplayer.

gfwl only offers download for games bought on their shop. if you got it on steam you need to use steam. you did buy it on nother account back then. your current account does not have it.

Got it working at last.

Backstory:

I got GFWL the standalone client working fine on my laptop, but it kept freezing on my desktop when i tried to log in. Making downloading the DLC impossible.

Other things of note were: I was able to get the game to sing-in to Live in-game. Only if I had the standalone installed though, and I didn't even have to fix the login freeze to do that...but i wanted my DLC so I pressed on.

Knowing that it works on the laptop I decided to just go at it full force.

Long story short, I couldn't get it to work right until have a clean install. I didn't use admin mode, nor compatibility mode. I was on Windows 10 64-bit as well. All i did was download from the link in the OP, install, and the rest was history.

Don't bother trying to play the game before installing the standalone client above.

im pretty sure the GFWL servers where closed years ago? but if you google it then theres a patch somone made you can get that removes/bypasses the GFWL part of it, it worked fine for me on my windows 7 pc and windows 8.1

they still work, but it's incredibly fickle.

You can bypass GFWL with a DLL tossed into the game folder but you can't get the DLC. Getting GFWL to work enough to start the game most people can do but only a handful have managed to actually get their DLC. Live works fine for me but the Marketplace where the actual downloading is done is basically non-functional.

The game can forceably log in but my account is blank and it won't let me download anything. The Marketplace itself can't launch without insisting on installing an update that simply refuses to work on windows 10.

At this point I think pirating the content we legally own is the easiest solution. I'm at the point where I can't fathom how Microsoft thinks anyone can trust them with their storefront in Windows 10; in a year or two my purchased items will just be taken away from me.

You're a virtue signalling child. They have every right to do that given this game is effectively broken for all of us now.

Honestly it wasn't that good of a game to begin with. Microsoft's game division is abysmal.

its got nothing to do with right vs wrong, if you don't want a permanent ban you need to not mention it
