Blood Owl

An owl passed by during a run, so I decided to go check it out

Only for said owl to BURST into this flame of red and give the owl this red stained look,
I choose to leave it be out of fear of ruining my current run, but it gave me the option to shoot it

Does anyone know what this is, or what it means?

This happened to me on my first or second run ever. I think it might be a result of either hunger, or frostbite. Either way, I don't think it has any journal entries that go with it. Just a cool feature the devs put in! ^^
