Runtime Error Fix

If you launch the game and receive these messages: "Mode Switch Failed. Running in windowed mode." "Your Open GL version appears to be out of date. If you have issues running you game please update your graphics driver." "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I can't guarantee it'll work for everybody but here is the solution that worked for me after contacting the game's creators. I'll be as detailed as possible but if anybody would like a video tutorial, let me know.

1. Go to you computer's start menu and type "run"
2. In the Run program type "regedit" (say "yes" if it asks for permission to run the program)
3. Follow the path Computer > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Manic > Critical Mass
~(Probably the only thing inside the folder is (Default) with (value not set))
4. Right click anywhere in the folder and select New > String Value
5. Name the value "ScreenHeight"
6. Right click on ScreenHeight and select "Modify..." (it's probaly in bold text)
7. In the box labeled "Value data" type in the the height of your monitor or 768 (this will result in windowed mode) and click OK.
8. Repeat steps 4 - 7 except name the String Value "ScreenWidth" (step 5) and type in the Value data your screen width or 1024 (step 7)
9. Close the Registry Editor and try launching the game now.

Fix works, thanks a bunch. However, I do still get the "OpenGL is out of date" warning, but the game starts up anyway.

Here in 2018 I can confirm that pearadise's fix works for me in windows 10 too - I still get the OpenGL is out of date warning but game works fine, I'm running in 1080p, the first time you fire it up it displays funny in a window, but then you can make it fullscreen in the menu. Thanks!

Worked for me just now. All that time and it was just the stupid lack of a resolution/dimensions setting. Exported it to a .REG file for later use. Also it doesn't have to be 1024 x 768. Haven't really played around with it beyond 720p. I'm just glad it works.
