Footprints on map
There have been footprint icons present when in map view (in postbox). I had thought they were indicators of where you should go next, but I'm now at a point where I only have one set of footprints, and I'm 99% sure I can do nothing at their location. What do the footprint icons mean?

EDIT: surprising no-one, it was the 1%: I could progress from where they are. I'll leave the question though: do the footprints indicate where you should be focussing?

Also what is the difference between grey (I have two of these) and green footprints?

Yes I believe they show where you can be sure progress can be made. I didn't know there were different colors?

Hello! The footprints in general (grey) direct you to puzzles that we think the player, with the knowledge they've learned up to this point, can solve without too much additional trouble - that is to say they're not super tough secret puzzles, nor are they puzzles requiring mechanics you don't know yet.

The green footprints should replace the arrow over postboxes that you can visit, and represent where the main/critical path through the game is, in case you've gotten lost while exploring the world.

We've definitely received the feedback that this should be more clear and are planning on addressing this in the future. Thank you!

Thanks! That's basically what I'd guessed, the problem is because of the nature of the game, you can end up in a place where you think you're stuck when you're not (as happened to me), causing doubt in the assumption of what the footprints are. A simple legend on the map screen is all that's needed to remove doubt.
If you're looking at the map UI, can I add a small request? Now that I'm officially in the late game, I find myself visiting postboxes in order to be able to look at the map and think about how I should go about reaching some of the harder-to-reach places. With that intention, the 'Space to travel' prompt tends to be sufficiently distracting/map-covering to cause me to scroll far enough that it jumps to a different postbox.

I don't know if there's a solution to this, given the importance of the prompt, but thought I'd flag it up as a minor late-game irk, in what is otherwise a relentlessly delightful experience :)

I very much agree, but actually now found that if you hover your mouse over where it says "Space to travel", it will go away. Took me over 60h playtime before I found this out though. :lunar2019laughingpig:

Hello! I have two things to say here. The first is that the last three comments have been noted internally.

The second is that we released a patch today that introduces new updates to the map screen and should hopefully make things a bit more clear.

We will continue to monitor player feedback on the map. Thank you!

I'm color blind with a mild red/green deficiency, and I can't tell the difference between the 2 footprint colors, so that is some UX feedback.

I currently have only 1 footprint icon on the map. I assume that means that is the critical path I should be following? I ask because I'm not sure how to determine the main path through the game, so I have just been following the footprint icons, but some have led me on paths that loop back on themselves (I assume those must have been grey footprints). In other words, I'm very lost at this point and hoping that just following the footprints is the correct way to progress. The current footprint icon I see does not appear above a postbox, which makes me concerned that I am not on the correct path based on Syrenne's September 18 response.

Thanks!

Hey there mate!
After completing the main path of game, I'll advice you to just solve the footprints, doesn't matter if they're green or grey. Yes, sometimes the grey ones loop themselves, but most of the times they'll help you and will open new paths.

Many times I lost the green footprints, and by solving grey ones they ended reappering in other places, so I think it's nice to always go for them.

Do mind that even sometimes footprints appear on islands that have already been solved, but you need them to find the solution for another island; in other words, I would take the footprints as "something is going on here"..

Thanks! Yeah, my plan is to just keep following the footprints since I'm not sure what else I would do.
