Alternate character?

I know how deeply tied into the game the female protagonist is but is there any feasible way to add a male counterpart? Simply don't feel comfortable playing as a woman, and its the only thing keeping me from playing. Women being in harms way and getting hurt makes me sick to my stomach. Sorry if that's stupid, the game looks really fun and I'm glad other people can enjoy it the way it is.

There's no way to play another character, and even if there were, it would be an unlockable after finishing the campaign.

If that ever ends up being the case I WILL play through with a mod/savestate to switch characters at the beginning. Hopefully information of another character being possible to play as reaches me so I can do just that. Thank you for your reply.
