The english voice actor sounds bored not depressed. Big difference, really big difference. :P
They clearly just used the cheapest "voiceactors" they could get.
But the game makes up for that. Just suffer through the voice acting,m the game itself is quite nice. I enjoyed it.
That combined with shady work ethics rumored to be the modi operandi at Daedalic Entertainment (teams apparently in large numbers are based of unpaid interns or underpaid freelancers) sadly they and also locally the industry itself won't step it up anytime soon..
Many years back this was different, old school adventure games like Day of the Tentacle or later Broken Sword were done much better, but nowadays it seems that's over.
Some productions that invest into a few good voice actors still fail at execution as even those voice actors can only save so much without deeper involvement/ context/ bad working environments.
As awesome as Mass Effect's Voice acting was in english (FemShep' especially) for example - the german voice overs were just laughably bad. Voice acting like that of Jennifer Hale's or that in "Bioshock infinite" or even an older title like "Prey" (Tommy and Jen - awesome work) simply unthinkable/ non existant in German productions or German localisations.

I can only imagine it's partly because of much smaller budgets and also working environments without quality standards of US productions, and probably mostly work out of any context so a voice actor wouldn't know where or how it all came together and basically would voice in hours of text without any visuals or deeper understanding of what they were part of.
I remember Kiefer Sutherland once on a late night talk show commented on how tedious a Game voice over production he was part of was (and surely he was one of the properly "pampered" stars in that US production) - now imagine that over here with much lower prestige, wages, much less time and even less helpfull work environments not keeping anyone interested or happy and you got the result we see in I would say pretty much every German handled production. As a German I'm really angry over that but it sadly is the truth.
Specifically on "A new beginning" writing and story was so cliché I could not make it through large parts of the game without cringing or "fremdschämen" as we say in Germany.
That's another thing, where US productions have dedicated "Writers" or even a team of those as someone who did creative work in another industry in Germany before I know for a fact aside from some movie stuff this would not be a dedicated (as in paid solely for that) position in most German productions, and is also treated inferior/ stepmotherly, way less prestigious, that's also why most of these new adventures are mostly superficial/ shallow with their stories and one dimensional characters as it very well might have been written by an unpaid intern on the side (keeping that in mind it's not bad but obviously not what ppl would like to see).
Personally I think it has to do with an issue in our society over here, sadly often many arts don't get any recognition or are not valued at all if they are too far off the usual office jobs of average joe/ plain jane in our so called "Leistungsgesellschaft".
Related tho, some things did bug me slightly. I understand the animations were likely synced for German, but it would have been nice if they at leaset were cut to length of the audio files. Subtitles also were another issue, they often didn't match up with the dubbing, and they were totally redundant during the comic book style scenes, in many cases overlapping the chat bubbles and making neither readable. Would have been nice if those were able to be supressed just for the cutscenes, but I felt off was the better of two evils.
Definitely agree..normally I would not like a game without voices..but in this case especially a PNC game..it would have been better.
I actually turned the volume off for speech. Maybe I should put it on the original language..then at least I have some VO..
Absolutly the voice acting in german is very good and some stuff only makes sense in german im sure. but hey english movies & games have aweful synchronisation in german too. i bet its the same everywhere.
I stomached my way through it..I enjoyed it overall though a proper localization and maybe a better ending could have made it a decent experience..or at least a better one ;)
