So after you open your App., Just hit start and it should work. I know you said you can play the game properly, I'm just a bit confused and i think this MIGHT be a solution? Other than that I'm not sure. I think you'd know this already if you're a DarthMod fan. Sorry that's all i can provide.
Is this anything like what you might be experiencing?
When I press "Start" from the launcher or with DME ready, is says 'Application load error 5:0000065434'
Steam hates launchers so you have to start steam first. Then launch the Darthmod launcher after it.
After that, and after Dartmod is installed, all you have to do is to make sure that Steam is running in the background. Then, you run the Darthmod launcher. If Steam isn't running, Darthmod can't execute the game.
Didn't matter if I 'Start' at the launcher, or 'Start' at Steam with DME ready, it says: Application load error 5:0000065434

I don't fully understand it but, you know, maybe you do....
just for the record. You start the DM launcher, you click start, Then, without closing the DM launcher, you go to steam and start the game from there. That doesn't work for you?
