Town Wealth
Hey Guys,

I've been playing this game for ages but one thing I haven't figured out is how to raise the town wealth, say for instance I have a port that is in England which is transporting thousands in goods yet the game states that the port is "very poor". How the hell does that happen? Anyone know why?

Cheers lads

Maybe you can find your answers here. Generally speaking I think its more or less just an advancement in your overall campaign for your empire. As your nation gains in resources, techs, infrastructure and the like so will your regions wealth.

The biggest way to increase wealth is to cut taxes. The more money the people have the more money they can use to spend, hire, raise salaries, save, etc. Lower taxes as you can afford it; towards the later stages of the game you'll be making more than if you had higher taxes all along. On the hardest level I am almost always on lowest taxes by the year 1720 and have plenty of money.

Other than that it is good to increase roads (builds wealth over time and aids trade) and any buildings that make money or tradable resources. Keeping a close eye on your ministers is important too, as they impact your income (and town wealth).

Some places are just going to be dirt poor. Malta (for example) - let's say you take the place and turn the military port into a trade port. With no resources or building spots on the island it will remain a poor place. But England? Just keep building up the ports (they create wealth and add value to trade lanes as well as the wealth of the province), roads, and other buildings.

I hope this has helped.

Research Enlightenment Techs they are best way to increase wealth in even poorest places. Be careful though some government types dont like too much enlightenment.

Good point Kilrathii. In fact, both the tech and enlightenment trees have considerable financial advantages over time.

Thanks guys, I have kept taxes at the same level throughout the game and are about halfway (1754), so I might cut my taxes in Europe since most of my income comes from my colonies in India and the Americas, see if that helps
