The game is easy enough to win without mods or cheats for faster research and building. :D If you do the Road to Independence Tutorial, you'll learn how to win. You can do it without those types of mods or cheats! :D
Also, If you have any other questions about ETW you can ask me or a master of the game that i know named Kumelowski. He has better advice, but in this case he'd give you the same info.

I found it easy to get plenty of technology: by building more schools, by upgrading schools, and by focussing on the pink technologies (which increase research rates).
