What genre are the total war games considered?

RTS even though if you really want to get into semantics it's Turn Based Strategy, Real Time Tactics.

i ask, because I'm making genre categories for my steam library, and this is hard to place. I notice thats the case with most games now a days. The genres bleed together.

I just call mine Total War.

But I think it's a 4x, it has exploration extermination exploitation and expansion

4x means settlement, though, along with randomisation for exploration.
TW is more like base capture, which is RTS.

I think of them as Turn Based Strategy, because the campaign map goes by turns.
