Dueling

So I tried a few duels with my gentlemen. I was sick of enemies hanging out at my school. I won a few lost a few. Nobody ever died. I would see the guy at a party with his arm in a sling. All I could do was nock his guy out of the school for a turn. My rake could assassinate them but at high risk. Eventually I gave up. What are your results? Is it worth bothering with? Also my animation was slow and choppy.

The animation being slow and choppy is one of the many, many issues that plague ETW.
As for duelling: it's difficult to get much good out of it. I'd only recommend going duelling if you get a gentleman without research traits, or better yet, one with good duelling traits.

Thanks for your reply. I did have a gentleman with a bonus at dueling that was why I was tempted to try. Did you manage to kill anyone or die yourself?

I have only done a few duels. I killed the other guy once, the rest were a draw.

you can get a badge for dueling I think. I never did it much so dunno the numbers needed or anything

Gentlemen are very useful at getting rid of enemy rakes. If an enemy rake is spotted (eg he fails to sabotage a building, but escapes alive) you can see them until the end of your turn. If you have a gentleman within range, send him to challenge the rake to a duel. The victory percentage is much higher than sending one of your rakes to assassinate him. Although, even if you're victorious, there's no guarantee that the rake will die in the duel.

Awesome, killing off enemy rakes could be very handy since they are so limited in number. That was a flaw imo on Rome total war. You could build a ton of spies and never have a closed gate to your army.

I just like watching the animations for the duels. Although I always seem to get the one where the guy contracts ♥♥♥♥♥nitis and runs away, then gets shot.

Tip for dueling, save the game then duel, if you don't get the desired outcome, load the previous save. If Gentlemen keep stealing techs surround your university with milita or some other cheap unit. It will block the path of any gentlemen or rakes. I use the save method when France rushs United Provinces with three Catholic Priest...those guys take forever to kill
