Basically, they can love you; but if an alliance isn't in their favor, nope.
it is best to make alliances with nations with common religions and different goals, (a few examples; great britain with prussia & united provines, even sweden, or france with spain & austria), like so, they will not see you as a threat for expanding too much or wish to acquire land that is a part of their objective too much (unless it was 1 of their starting territories).
it is also not possible to ally yourself with enemies of another ally, & you will be forced to either go to war with an ally or lose both if another declares war on said ally, keep in mind breaking promises is viewed badly by all nations & can hinder diplomatic objectives in the future.
