I can't cross the land bridges!
(The golden arrow things) So, I'm in America and i am trying to cross a land bridge in Canada. There is no fleets blocking it because this is Native territory and is in the Great Lakes. Any help?

Here is a pic:

OK, this might seem a little confusing to some: There are 2 locations on the America's map that use almost the exact same name that are close to one another: (1) Being Sault Saint Marie in Upper Canada and (2) Fort Sault Ste. Marie in the Huron region. Now I went back to the OP's original post screenshot (which showed Fort Sault Ste. Marie (capital of Huron region) and saw what he was having a problem with. There two land bridges near this town, one bridge goes east- west and is cross-able, the other bridge icon faces north - south which is "not cross-able", but that is not the only bridge going to Michigan. If you travel southwest of Sault Saint Marie, Upper Canada and even farther west of the Contestoga farm you will see two more bridges that are both cross-able from Upper Canada to Michigan either way. Yes the ETW map experts should have eliminated the land bridge icon going from the Huron region to the Michigan region, it's stupid, but not the end of the world.

Should add: Yes there is a land bridge icon going (east and to the south) from Sault Saint Marie, Upper Canada, to the Cayuga Iroquois region that could make the above quoted post somewhat incorrect, after all it was Sault Saint Marie that was mention and "not" Fort Sault ste. Marie that should have been mentioned.

I have never had that problem. You should be able to move your armies across.

Blackout: yes, I couldn't either. Playing the French and owned both sides of the bridge. Could not get a military unit or a spy across it. Very frustrating.

Same here, I've never been able to put any units across that area. Try seeing if investing in the infrastructure helps put roads/bridge across it

oh, maybe, maybe that would work

But I alreday gave the land to the French for their land so I could get my armies there.

I know that this is a bit old, but I found this post by Googling the same issue.

I believe have figured it out. You have to establish a Zone Of Control (ZOC) before you can cross this section.

I am playing as Austria and the Ottoman Empire has declared war on me for the third time; so naturally I am going to run him through this time. I own both Istanbul and Ankara. I also had a fleet of 3x Sloops and 2x Indiaman ships sitting right by the crossing. I couldn't cross from Rumelia into Anatolia.

However, when I sat a Sixth Rate in the same spot, I believe I established the proper ZOC and am able t cross now. I don't think that this is a bug, as many have stated, but is intended behavior.

Summary: Make sure you have a proper ZOC established.

Hope that helps!

Holy poop nuggets Batman, I wasn't expecting to see this thread again. Sounds good, but I don't think there are any ports to the Great Lakes, otherwise, your reasoning makes sense. Thanks!

im pretty sure it's a glitch that was never fixed as I looked for a fix years ago and back then modders were saying they couldn't mod the map.
Maybe it's different now but in all my 700hrs playing, i've never crossed at that point.

Possibly. I have owned the game for quite a while now, but haven't really played it until recently.

TW: Napoleon does the same thing. So I would have to say that this is intended behavior. The real question is: "Why does this happen?". Maybe the Developers will let us know why this was intentional.

Well there is lso the hidden landbridge between Newfoundland and Labrador. I guess they took out the graphics for it, and didn't recode the map.

Well, for some land bridges, such as between Sweden to Denmark, it didn't let me cross until I had at least a dirt road there.
Sven ☠ 2157 Feb 4, 2016 @ 8:18pm
I tried upgrading the roads, but didn't have any luck. Like I said, when I sat that Sixth Rate right next to it, I was then able to cross.

I did also notice something else, though, and this might be the ever elusive bug: If I instruct a unit to go over the crossing, he will route around (the long way). However, if I first tell him to enter the town, THEN go across, he seems to be cool with it. :OhNoBlue:

Peculiar, indeed!

Sometimes I get that issue with river crossings in the Americas when using my agents. They probably killed a few of the crossings in the last updates (however long ago that may have been is irrelivant). Whether is was intentional or not is anyones guess though :D

Incorrect. There are no fleets possible on the Upper Great Lakes in vanilla ETW.

This land bridge, south from Sault Ste. Marie (Upper Canada) into Michigan, is usable only in the Warpath Campaign. It should be invisible in the Grand Campaign.
