You have just installed ETW and got straight into DarthMod? Wrong.
Load first Vanilla, quit, then load DarthMod.
You forgot to open Steam before opening the Launcher?
Close Steam->Close Launcher->Open Steam->Open Launcher.
You probably have other mod left overs in your game folder.
Open the Launcher->Utilities->Check Files->Delete everything in the list (unless you know you need it)
Maybe you installed to wrong directory.
The installer finds automatically the ETW installation directory and suggests you to install DarthMod Empire there. However, maybe for various reasons not known yet for sure, it suggests a default directory that is slightly different than the correct.
For example it suggests C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\
but you have installed the game in your secondary drive D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\
in %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts.
This file can be responsible for CTD or freezes for various reasons and so then it needs clean up. (The game produces a new one after delete).
