Empire Total war is only available in medium settings...

Hey there!
I recently reinstalled Empire Total War and was looking forward to play it on highest settings on my new MSI Laptop. Specifications:

GPU: GeForce GTX 870M
CPU: Intel(R) Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz
RAM: 16 GB (15,92 accessable)
Graphiccard's driver's version: 358.50 (This is the newest, according to my Nvidia control system.)
System: Windows 8.1

Unfortunately, I am for whatever reason not able to select any graphic option higher than medium! This is pretty annoying huh?
So I googled a little around and came across the hint that Empire might not select my "right" graphics card (the GTX 870M) but rather the integrated card from Intel when launching. So this is what I did so far:

- I assigned the Program ETW to my Nvidia Graphicscard (and not to the intern card of Intel) in the Nvidia control panel

- I altered the preferences script of Empire (findable under: %APPDATA%\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts\preferences.empire_script) from "gfx_video_memory 0" to "gfx_video_memory 536870912". This should normally - according to the Total War Center - unlock all graphic settings in Empire. - I updated all drivers.


All these measures didn't help - Empire is still only available in medium graphics settings :(
Did I do anything wrong? Is there ANY other possible way to fix this?
I would be VERY happy if anybody could help me with this...
