Platoon Fire vs Fire by Rank
Fire by Rank is available for research earlier on the tech tree yet it seems far more effective than Platoon Fire. I've seen on some forums too that some players recommend not to research Platoon Fire later on since as they claim, Fire by Rank is deadlier with it's volley of fire. What do you guys think? Which is better? :Honored: :Dignity:

Platoon Fire is undoubably better then fire by rank, with platoon firing your regiment is always shooting at the target, the only thing fire by rank does better then platoon firing is that it's vollies hurts the targets morale.

Yeah I agree, Fire by Rank tends to break enemy's morale faster. I did notice that too. I guess I'd have to take your word for it since you seems like a veteran ETW player. I'd no longer hesitate to research Platoon Firing when I start a new campaign.

Scots v Prussian Line settles it. Scots have 10 less reload but still win due to firing drill.

most people who think fire by rank is better then platoon firing say fire by rank it better because it "it looks cooler" which should never be a decideing factor when trying to pick which one is better

what do you think about who utilize platoon firing the best then? i hear units such as grenadiers utilizes platoon firing far more better than a regular line infantry. a 2 rank deep grenadiers can outkill a line infantry that uses the same firing tactic. i was told that the number of ranks plays a role too in order to fully utilize the maximum potential of platoon firing.

1v1 Grenadiers will always lose against Line Infantry, it's a close fight though.

Well, just saying, "it doesn't work" doesn't tell anyone much about the problem.

The units that utilize platoon firing best are superior line infantry that Prussia and Sweden have accsess to. you can have 15 of those in your military which they can be the main line infantry in at least 3 armies (5 each) they will 100% win a defensive fire fight and are pretty good on the offensive

Grenadiers should never be put on the front line, unless it is early game and you have fire by rank and the enemy doesn't. late game greandiers are more of a support unit the best way to use them is to put them on your flanks (if you play multiplayer grenadiers work very well on maps with alot of choke points and tight spaces)

Fire by rank is better then when enemy is approaching fast and you need to kill as many as possible fast. But if it's a "classic" infantry vs infantry shooting then platoon firing is better because you never stop firing.
I love making doomstacks of granadiers behind cannon fodder and just spamming nades
