Fantasy/mythological settings gives CA the ability to stay safely on fictional ground and thus licence to do whatever they like basically. No need to adhere to pesky details like historical accuracy or facts.
Thats true too... not having any mechanics for slavery, culture, or different laws was kind of a let down. And the religion system was pretty barebones. I do like how they managed the government system though, although I think something like a theocracy and primitive governments should be added. Also technology was really well done. clamor for reform was decent enough both to justify republic as a government, but no so bad that absolute monarchy wasnt.
Also run the issue now that the series has gotten much bigger in the community which will lead to more disagreement in content and path taken.
Of course many run the issue of over expectations as well. Big one being the idea of a global historical TW. They haven't got to the level of doing that yet, even with WH3s combined campaign that required 3 games to get to that scale isn't enough for our world without an even worse province density than Empire 1. 1 Province France is hugely unpopular now 1 province Europe?
The Total War series has turned its back on History and embraced fantasy in pursuit of the holy dollar $. One also has to remember that it's been more than 20 years since the original generation of Total War games came out. Many of the people that were behind the original games such as Shogun Total War (2000) and Medieval Total War (2002) are no longer with the company.
Warhammer is absolutely anathema to me. I can't stand this type of thing. For people interested in History and realism, the last title of any value was Attila Total War (2015).
Sadly, unless they have a surprise in the works, it looks like other series or the old games are our only options.
Are there anyothersimilar games to ETW?

If you can handle bad graphics, and as an empire fan im guessing you can, theyre pretty bad. But the gameplay is awsome and aside from diplomacy its waay more in depth than empire is. to the point where you choose the univorms and weapons of each faction.
Thank you, it's a 2021 release date too. Not sure why it's almost $50 though? I'm loving the fact you can choose the uniforms and weapons. I added it to my wish list and will buy it when the price comes down.
Well then they need to make the Zulu nations and the Sudanese Mahdi's army be as playable nations. As well as all the other non European nations. Let them have access to their goldmines, oil fields and diamond mines, be able to buy European mercenaries, and buy state of the art weaponry and military advisers. All this PC nonsense is easily solved with this. I fully agree with what you are saying though.
I'm hopeful for that tbh. But you also gotta remember that those rumors were coming out before Troy and 3K were announced. Heck there were dudes saying that there was no way CA would ever let there be a WH3 before a ME, Rome, or Shogun 3.
No. They registered a trademark early last year for Total: Medieval and a person that does motion capture for CA released pictures of himself doing exactly that. Safe to say, Feral Interactive is probably working on getting Med2 remastered so that when it gets released it'll be in anticipation of a new TW game.
