Does Russia always attack Sweden?
And GB with India invade Sweden later?

Its so stupid and unlogic. The computer is just trying to take territories that developers made him want. Things must be like: you are strong -> almost no-one wants to declare war on you; you are not strong (+ wars) -> computer wants to take some primary territories (Russia - st. Petersburg and Crimea, Sweden - Norway and Karelia, Britain Hibhlartar and so on) and sign a treaty, not war to the end!

I mean, diplomacy in this game is very, very primitive and stupid, I bet they spent 0.1% of their resources on diplomacy.

A small tip.

Try starting the game with all the factions just so you can see what countries each faction needs to complete the game. This info can be used cleverly to avoid wars or to start them.

Actually it is not since all the factions like to win, not just you. People seem to forget sometimes its a video game and things are programmed to win.

Russia and Sweden will always engage in a war, same goes for;

Austria vs Poland-Lithuania
Austra vs Prussia
Prussia vs Poland-Lithuania
United Provinces vs Spain
United Provinces vs France
Mughal Empire vs Marathan Confederacy
Ottoman Empire vs Persia

Incidentally, Great Britain, being allied to Austria and United Provinces get dragged in the wars against Poland/Prussia and Spain and France.

I have kept a long lasting peace with Austria, and I'm playing as Prussia.

After trading for a long time and having common allies and enemies they offered an alliance.

It's 1719 so far, we'll see how long it lasts...

Then you're in luck. I never opt for an alliance with Austria when I play as Prussia, simply because they have lands that I want united under my banner. Same goes for Poland-Lithuania, I need East-Prussia because I like my land to be connected.

Those three are the "s(c)hitake" storm of Europe. Always expect a war between those three. And I've yet to see someone else coming on top other then Poland-Lithuania when I'm playing an other nation.

I am finishing a campaign right now as Sweden (world conquest) and Russia never did attack me. I went after Denmark first and allied with Hannover. Hannover ended up conquering two more territories and going to war with France and Spain. Poland attacked me, then Prussia, then Austria. I defeated all of them, and took out Couralnd, and still Russia didn't attack me. Finally, I attacked Russia (around turn 60) because they were starting to wipe out the Ottomans, who I needed to protect one of my flanks.

Oddly enough, this is the second campaign (in several years of playing) where I've seen the Marathas get beaten. The Mughals have taken India, and are fighting my Ottoman allies. Also rare, I'm on about turn 80 and the United Provinces are still alive.

So yes, some of the things that happen in the game happen 99% of the time, but not always.

(I have taken out France and Spain, and my main allies are Ottomans, Britain, and United Provinces, though the latter two are unfriendly. I am sending a force of 5 armies to invade southern India.)

It's not stupid, 'cuz Russians have 21 years war with Sweden... For their campaign it's one of goals to get Ingria in their hands and Saints-Peterburg is russiuan window to Europe... And Sweden of course doesn't like this way... and wanna Karelia to their hands (which, from start, in Russian hands).
GB vs Sweden it's more interesting thing, but I have all Scandinavia (conquered by Russians) and Britts never try open a warfare here.

Strategically, Russia must attack Sweden to gain access to the Baltic Sea...for much the same reasons it must take Crimea in the south : This is history.....even repeated in modern history.

In my Russian game I advanced into Estonia, then made peace with Sweden after giving back Estonia and keeping St. Petersburg with it's two ports (very important for Russian advancement). In the south I took the Crimea then advanced directly on Constantinople and Moldovia, then Serbia.....the Ottomans hussled me for peace ! After this Russia was free to invest in itself without constantly buying troops, thus later, offering expansion into India.

As to 'diplomacy doesn't work in this game'........sorry mate, it does work, you have to do something about your prestige......and be prepared to to some aweful deals to start with. It eventually gets better.

You played easy or medium difficulty. Because in case of the hardest one dagestan and georgia will attack you as ottomans and, later, swedes. After completing georgian and dagestan persian will declare war on you.

Just what I want to say: game diplomacy (and diplomacy possibilities, like give freedom to lands, found confederation etc) really really sucks.
