How to make your captured regions happy?
So I was playing as Austria, I captured Berlin, Warsaw and Lwow.
I am still pushing to the east, but I am having big problems with rebels and rebellions.
Does anybody know how to easily make the citizens of the regions that I have captured happy?

When I capture I new region, I temporarily release it from having to pay taxes. You can do this in the panel when you double-click on the region's capital. When you leave them without having to pay taxes for 5 or 6 turns, and leave a seizable army in their capital, they will subdue to your rule :Dignity:

TAX... Excempt the regions from Tax, keep your armies in the cities for about 4-5 turns. Meanwhile, Train LOADS of militia then put them inside the cities. which then free's up your armies. :)

Yeah, I usually exempt taxes, but in big cities like Berlin and Warsaw that does not influence the populace so much,.

But still, thanks a lot for the tips!

no taxes and large armies. if the city has walls what you can do if you cant be bothered to keep defeating rebles in capital cities of major nations which have like a million times more resistance is just the let the rebel army be, they'll attack you ♥♥♥♥ for a while then give up and so once the city becomes happy again then defeat the rebels.

Well attacking to capitals without to have enough army and money is never a good idea. People from Berlin or Warsaw or Amsterdam always rebel when you conquer them and there are not many things you can do. First, Except from taxes and repair all buildings. Then, whetever you may do, people will reber at least once. Kill all rebels and return your army back to city. Do not leave any building damaged. You can also upgrade buildings like Opera that increase happiness. Do not leave any rebel alive never. Kill them all. At the same time recruit new soldiers so after some turns if you are lucky, you will have your main army free to go for new territories. Capitals cannot be controled easily. My strategy is to conquer every small city that my enemy has and then to go for the capital. Sometimes, i attack to the capital and then i give the city back and ask for peace. He accepts, so i have time to reorganize my army and attack again. When you kill the first rebels with your main army, you will need a new army with at least 10 units to be in the capital city for the first 5 rounds and no taxes of course! Then you may not have new rebellions. Or the second rebellion will be the last! From round to round, they will become happy again.

This is why we need ceasefire in ETW. For example have a ceasefire as you re-organize your army.

Well yes ceasefire sounds really interesting but if i was Prussia and i have lost Berlin from Austrians, i would never accept ceasfire knowing that in 2 rounds people will rebel so i can attack and have my capital back!

Try burning the whole city to the ground and killing every man woman and child. People cant rebel when their dead.

Good luck trying to do that, since there's no looting/sacking/pillaging mechanic in Empire. The most you can do is tear down the buildings and replace them with the first-tier buildings., but I don't know how that will benefit you.

Use Dragoons, they have a bonus to repression. Tear down buildings and replace them with Religious or Happiness, of course. Exempt taxes, yadda yadda yadda.
drazan Aug 12, 2014 @ 4:31am
religion is a key to happiness, so are taverns/inns. having a army garrisoned inside the city helps. certain units give additional bonus(like dragoons) and removing the tax also helps. you just have to "convert" the cities to your own culture through church and inn. removing schools also helps(as school give negative happiness)
