Campaign scale and most bugs = ETW, Combat and overall polish = NTW.

It goes that way.

But Empire recommended, it does have Epic campaign.

I prefer NTW

Yup, warts and all I got my moneys worth out of ETW. I much preferred NTW out of the two though. The 19th century is of more interest to me so am bias in this but just comes down to player preference in what the two titles offer.

Empire by a mile and further.

Empire. 100x
But yes you learn the bugs and how to deal with them.

Empire. Even if confined to Europe as Napoleon is I prefer the cocked hats to shako/stovepipe hats

I know that sounds really gay but I hate the Napoleonic Era uniforms

Wasn't Nap just a retrofit of Empire with a few graphics changes? What I don't like while playing Nap is that it is way to easy to defeat France as any of the other factions. If my memory is right Napoleon won this particular conflict against the fourth coalition decisively. But the AI can't demonstrate that. Not at all. And since it's not a grand campaign like Empire has, it's a very..very short game no matter who you choose to play as.

Empire may be a half finished piece of crap but it's given me far more interesting game play. I once as Austria conquered Italy, fought a short war against Spain, and then fought a series of three wars against an unusually aggressive Russia that conquered Prussia and Poland and part of my own empire, before I amassed 60,000 troops and finally, barely ended their invasion of Sweden and pushed them back to Moscow. THAT was fun, and entertaining. Napoleon can't really offer that kind of entertainment unless maybe you side with France and betray the coalition or something.

A lot more is going on in Empire, that is true, many more playable factions and replay value even if you solely play as your "favorite" faction

Not for all of us. Some of us are not that good. Also: install the all factions mod and try playing as e.g. Oldenburg. Then it's harder.

Why is being "gay" something bad?

D:

I don't really do anything fancy lol. I have my core line infantry, light infantry, dragoons and artillery. The later three types all screen my advance and damage the enemy line ahead of the main line engagement. Then the AI commits suicide by attacking in intervals, getting it's units routed 1 by 1 from a combination of cannister fire and undamaged line infantry in fire by rank. Napoleon could learn a thing or two from the real master of warfare!

Empire units look very similar for most of the factions while I found Napoleon to have more variety in this aspect. However, Empire has more variety in campaign. I don´t use mods, just stock games.
