Empire Total War wont launch / crashes on startup
Basically, I've been playing ETW with darthmod on and it's been working fine. Then one day, i try to start up DME and it works untill i start a campaign. so to fix it i deleted DME but it just made it worse because now empire (Even though it's vanilla now) won't start when i press play on steam or double click on the desktop icon.

I been trying to fix it for a while now and I've verified integrity of files an uncountable amount of times, done a fresh reinstall, deleted my empire folder in C:\users\username\appdata\roaming, ran it as an administrator, ran it in compatibility mode, ran steam itself as an administrator and deleted my preferences and user script files to no avail.

And to make things worth, i experienced the exact same problem with Napoleon Total War. (I uninstalled Napoleon and downloaded Empire as an alternative)

Can anyone please help?

Try stop anti-virus. If you are starting ETW on non-English system, disable foreign-language front-end process. ETW without mod system (empire_script reading) can be started on my Windows10.

My last suggestion is to apply 4GB patch. Under the setting without modding, If application errors indicate access violation in crushdumps, a memory-related problem during start-up are one of possible causes. Eliminate resident applications (startup programs and applications inserting some codes into all application programs) as possible as you can.

I'll try it out. I'm not expecting anything to work though.

I just came up with an idea to stop Steam overlay in Steam App.

How annoying! If you've deleted the main game folder and C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire, you've already carried out a complete reinstall, there shouldn't be anything of your previous install left.

You've already tried several things listed here, https://support.sega.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4407164255377-My-Total-War-game-on-STEAM-does-not-launch-and-or-crashes, I'm simply posting the link in case there's anything that you haven't tried. Good luck!

Hi,

unsure if you found the fix to this if not it should be this:

on your C drive search for 'The Creative Assembly'. (Windows doesn't show this folder as standard so the search must be done)

in that folder you have 'Empire'
in that folder you will see 'script'
Delete Script.

run game and that should solve your issue.

This will send the game back to vanilla

I'll try this now and see if it works - by the way, would the same work for Napoleon? Thanks.

Hi - sadly, it didnt work. I've done some more digging and i think now the reason is because i use windows 11 OS, which empire apparently doesnt support. Thanks for your suggestion, though.
