Should be located in AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly/Empire/scripts

This is a standard script file content I keep on hand just for this.

If you do not have the file at all, it is a basic text document named preferences.empire_script.txt Create a text document and rename it.

Once you have the document present, paste in the following, but change the screen resolution to match your desktop, go to the bottom line and change the number of "THREADS" for YOUR CPU, save, play have fun.

My apology as I did not understand a portion of your request clearly...

Straight simple directions, open file explorer. Does not matter to where (showing all hard drives, showing a folder, or showing hard drive contents). In windows 10, go to the far right tab at the top of the window menu and enable hidden files and folders. To explain, this is a protection feature enabled for the average user so that they do not mistakenly attempt to remove critical windows files. You may enable hiding hiding folders and files again if you like, but for gaming they need to be seen for some games.

EDIT: Windows 11 is more complicated as that becomes a drop down menu to find what you need to change that security feature. I have my registry changed reverting back to windows 10 explorer so cannot give those instructions for windows 11 as I simply only vaguely remember and no longer have access

NOW, once hidden files are enabled, this is the path, but you need to add your user account name...

THIS IS MY PATH not yours so change Hawk to your account name. Doing this, you DO NOT NEED to enable seeing hidden folders as once past appdata the folders are no longer hidden inside.

C:\Users\Hawk\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

I am around today and will be checking back intermittently. If you have any troubles or need direct help, add me as friend and when we are done feel free to remove me. I deliberately maintain friend slots just to assist people as I am NOT a chatter.

Also, as you are having this trouble and do not want to talk with me, I do have a couple of guides and one of those gives the steps for more fully enabling Empire to run including permissions to do things like create this needed file. There are multiple paths to the same effects and mine is only one, but it is the most commonly used.

To add to Hawk's comment above: one can as any user simply enter
%AppData%\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts
instead.

This will work regardless of the Hidden Files settings - though his comment may be a propos for the game. I always run with Hidden Files visible at all times, so can't comment on any possible effect otherwise on games.
