No CTD, just stops processing on Sweden's turn. Sit's there without progress, but the in-game sounds don't stop and nor does the swirling compass.
Are you noticing any factions with lots of individual unit stacks making random movements? Try going back a few turns if possible and ally, peace or attack them to try to knock them out of the game. Sometimes I have noticed you can delay the bug to a further point by doing this.
Also by chance is this single player or multiplayer coop beta?
1 - Note that the programming wants to win, and the game seems to have it's own favorite nation in mind, and the game will hang while it explores every possible option to beat you on that nation's turn. Especially if the game is advanced in years, and their armies are bigly.
2 - Often times it's difficult to tell if the game has hung (crashed) or if it's just moving really slow. In this case, I'll place the extreme tip of my mouse on the bottom right corner of a unit's flag. If their flag moves up & down over the course of time, then the game has not crashed, it's just moving really slow. This can take hours, so I go do something else, and come back later.
3 - If you saved your game at the end of your last turn, and one nation seems like it can't decide what to do in a reasonable amount of time, then I'll often shut down my own computer, and reload what I last saved. The "trick" seems to be my making changes either by army position, or diplomatic, and then saving the game again, but my making changes tends to change what the artificial intelligence believes that it needs to do.
4 - CPU nations that get big and can challenge the human player, are usually the same nations that hang my computer (Maratha comes to mind). I've found that I have to make war evenly over the entire world map to make sure that my nation stays as the lead nation.
If the lead nation is a CPU run nation, and the programming can't figure out how to beat me, and it can't learn how to defend against me, then the game will hang indefinitely. At this point, I declare victory.
If you don't already have something open to ALT+TAB to, just CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task manager. You don't actually have to ALT+TAB out, just bringing up the Windows overlay will instantly unfreeze the game and you can TAB again while still holding ALT to just stay in the game.
I imagine any number of other external overlays will also unfreeze the game and it is almost a certainty that it is these overlays that are causing the freezing in the first place. I've tried disabling the steam overlay and it had no effect. Probably something stupid like toast notifications from Teams, Outlook, Telegram, Slack, or whatever.
Guaranteed fix: reload autosave, wardec Sweden, end turn.
