Imperial Splendour Campaign Any Good?
Hey Empire fans,

I'm looking to get into an Imperial Splendour Grand Campaign. I was wondering if anyone had any experience playing either Imperial Splendour or their stand alone Rise of the Republic.

I know they're both works in progress but which one has the better campaign? How was your experience with either mod?

Yes, I've played Imperial Splendour. I like their concept of 'early', 'middle' and 'late' period units. The improved sound effects and textures add to the experience of battles.

Battles are very different. In land battles, the fatigue system is used to represent unit cohesion and you're likely to need to rest units more (for example, resting cavalry in between charges). Morale is much more fragile - militia are wavering if they aren't near your general, even before taking casualties and cavalry can break on contact with another unit.

Battles tend to take much longer (on land, musket fire is less accurate; on sea, hulls are much stronger). I enjoyed this in land battles and found it a bit frustrating in sea battles. While I understand the thinking behind these changes - muskets were inaccurate, ships tends to flee or be captured rather than sink - I found it a bit frustrating to rake an enemy warship but not damage even one enemy cannon.

Factions have unique research trees and can't trade technologies, adding to faction diversity. More factions are playable (although they won't all unit rosters which are as well-developed as those of France and Britain, for example).
