You comment about forums being 'dead and abandoned' doesn't make sense - I told you that the modders who work on The American Revolution are active on TWC, they released a new version on July 4. I've been using TWC frequently for years and haven't had a virus problem once.
If you were working with a modder directly, I wonder why were you asking for help here instead of contacting the modder.
As you'd probably expect, during the 10 years since Empire was released, some modders moved on to other things. But the forums aren't "abandoned", there's an active modding scene for Empire: https://www.twcenter.net/forums/content.php?433-Modding-ten-years-after-Empire-Total-War.
I'm surprised that you'd claim that the TWC forums are "abandoned", especially after I told you that a modder was currently posting on The American Revolution forum on TWC - so you knew that the forum is active, not abandoned. I'm surprised, too, by your claim about messages relating to viruses or malware. As I said, I've been on TWC frequently for years, I've not had any problems with either.
So, you knew that the modder was active on a forum, but you claimed that the forum was "dead". You knew that you could report the problem to the modder - you even worked "directly" with a modder - but you asked other players on a different forum. Of course, it's your choice.
On The American Revolution mod forum, the most recent posts are hours or days ago - not "years ago". On many ETW hosted mod forums, the most recent posts was today, a few days ago or a few days or weeks ago - not "years ago". The oldest recent post for any ETW hosted mod forum was in June 2018 - one year ago, not "years ago".
It's true that there are lots of old threads, particularly for older games, TWC has existed for a long time and the oldest TW games were released a long time ago. However, as you'd expect, new posts bump threads so we don't need to "sift through" old threads to see "recent stuff".
You're presenting a misleading picture here.
