Does this mod add anything except factions? For me every province may be a different faction, but it won't change the fact that every unit looks the same.

Just factions.
I've always had this theory. What if DM players are just experiencing sour grapes towards multiplayer. They booted it up once. Got thrashed, and then went, "fine, I didn't want to play multiplayer anyway!" Hence they didn't care that DM basically stops you from playing online.
ETF adds factions, add dispersement of start time specifically to the faction you choose plus has an early and late game along with tweaking the AI and fluffing out nonplayable factions to make them playable. Under the More Content on the start splash screen is also Vae Victus which modifies the AI. There are also other AI choices.

For the extra units, add in the Additional Units mod.
I'm in a love-hate relationship for darthmod, I'll use it to play minor nations and take over the world, but Vanilla is also pretty good. I hate darthmod for a few reasons. One of them is that the indians (Dot, not feather) have way too many troops per unit. They usually outnumber me a ♥♥♥♥ ton. I, for me, I'm doing a portugal campaign and I've won by 1740 (Just need to hold it till 1799 because I did domination) and I'm trying to take over the world. I hate DM also because of sieges. It could be 1700 of my line infantry vs like 1000 garrison militia and I'll still love because of auto resolve, making me do it myself, which brings me to my next point of how a militia regiment of 200 will lose 100 men, route, and then come back. I love Darthmod though, because it allows you to play minor nations, giving more of a difficulty level. Also, it has a better soundtrack, and the troops understand how to crouch and volley fire.

TLDR: I like DM because it lets me play minor factions and the troops in DM are more sophisticated, but hate it because the Indian nations are OP and I have to manually do sieges.
Simply put, all Darthmod is good for is stealing some of the files for your use in your own personal mods.

Yeah. Start a vanilla playthrough and never use darthmod. If you want anything changed, change it yourself (it's pretty easy, honestly)
How?
Packfilemanager, mostly.

Not even.
The mod I have been using is TROM 1.7 It makes for a much harder late game as is even's out the economy so that a powerhouse faction controlling half the map can still only afford half a dozen stacks.

I remember that in Vanilla I was building stacks of 20 line and shipping them off to India as reinforcements. In TROM you will have 3 or 4 stacks and garrisons, and be forced to match those stacks all over the map to do your fighting.

That sounds not to bad, mind sharing a link so I can read more about it?
The mod I wish could be made or the feature I wish could be implemented is Generals should be limited to the number of troops they can lead by their level/rank in a tiered fashion.

Example:

Rank 1 general can lead 2 units.
Rank 2 general can lead 4 units.
Rank 3 general can lead 6 units or 4 units and one rank 1 general with its 2 units
Rank 4 general can lead 8 units or 6 units and one rank 1 general and its units or 4 units and 2 rank 1 generals and their units
Rank 5 general can lead 10 units or 8 units and one rank 1 (assume and units after this point) or 8 units with two rank 1 (or one rank 2)
etc...

This would require restricting stacking of individual units without generals and it should be made that promoting a general makes the promoted unit the general's unit rather than creating a new unit so that if you promote pike, your general is a pike unit or if you promote militia, your general is a militia units.

That would have made both more sense and added a greater challenge to expansion, but everyone would scream because of the more realistic armies and battles not being huge enough which in most cases is pure fantasy.

Seems it's not being hosted any more.

This should work as it;s quite small.

I use a mod called www.beastiegals.com

It adds nurses and dogs, although the dogs only really help for garison.
