Dark Souls for manly men.

Don't mind the negative Chinese reviews. They're just sore at this game getting voice overs by a group they hate for nationalistic reasons. Negative reviews are purely politically motivated.

Game is great, starts out like Dark Souls but in fact Just Guarding is more effective than Just Evading.

In Dark Souls, if you run out of stamina, nothing much happens.
In Bloodborne, if you run out of stamina, nothing much happens.
In Sekiro, if you run-oh
In Little Witch Nobeta? If you run out of stamina, you trip and fall down in the cutest animation ever.

99% of negative reviews are petty review bombers that consist of:
-Hatred of Hololive voice actors.
-Lack of staggered updates despite the roadmap stating the intention is to release the entire game all at once.
-Impatience since the game is over a year off from the roadmap. However, Cyberpunk 2077 proved that a delayed release is far better than a bad and glitchy release.
-Anti-loli police, a young girl in fully dressed witch's clothes with zero ecchi in-game is somehow scandalous.
-Ignoring the release announcement set to be September 29.


3rd person mage shooter + The Witch's House explores a Dark Souls castle.

A cute loli, beautiful dark spooky castle, well-voiced Hololive cast, and a fairly reasonable story about a witch traveling with a totally-not-mischievous black cat.

It has all the common elements of a Souls-like: Stamina/Mana management, tough as nails but extremely rewarding parry and dodges, RPG upgradeable stats, deepest lore enriched in item descriptions, and enemies hit generally hard and punish mistakes and require the player to keep up their guard at all times, and a New Game+ mode after completion, but without the corpse runs and death has nearly no penalty, and has a casual difficulty setting that has auto-health regen and makes dying nearly impossible.

What Nobeta does differently however is her mage playstyle: she gains a varied assortment of spells useful in both offense and defense while greatly supported with melee that replenishes her resources, with unique effects once fully charged up. Don't let Nobeta's cuteness fool, she grows up to be an extremely powerful mage.

However, Nobeta's extreme potential growth can also nullify any challenge in the game. While parrying takes mastery, the second spell's defensive utility easily dominates the first half of the game, and the fourth and final spell is extremely overpowered and trivializes nearly every encounter in the second half. But suppose that's where New Game+ comes in.

Length-wise the game is also relatively short, at least up to 10 hours, maybe longer for full completionists or people struggling to master Nobeta's combat.

Still for what it's worth, Little Witch Nobeta is a very fun, enjoyable game with a cute and devastating witch loli.

It's not often that I fall in love with a game. People have kinda dubbed it as "loli dark souls", while it's definitely inspired by Dark Souls, it does have its own unique identity. At this time, It's early access and not finished yet, but it's incredibly promising and has great potential. I've already played through the whole game over 5 times and 100%'d the achievements. New Game+ also adds more replayability (but make sure you do the bonus area before starting NG+!)

The game is cute and difficult. Level and character design is absolutely gorgeous, I found myself stopping to appreciate the view alot while exploring. The soundtrack is also quite nice, I was a fan of the second stage music in particular as well as the first boss music. I must also say that the UI and HUD design is fantastic, I've never had less trouble understanding a game before.

Nobeta can get a total of 4 main attack spells, all of them are unique and have their own use depending on the situation (be it combat or a puzzle), but I often find Arcane and Ice to be the best overall (atleast at this point in early access). Chances are you won't end up using melee on your first playthrough very much, it can be intimidating to get close to bosses and enemies when you're new, but it's a good way to get mana when you run out. You can melee enemies in their dying animation for free mana as well. There's also an upgrade system, I found Intelligence, Mana, Health and Stamina to be the most valuable upgrades personally.

There is currently 3 boss battles and a 4th bonus one. All of them were very satisfying to fight and overall didn't feel too unfair with the exception of the third one until you learn some tricks. The Counter system in this game (equivalent to parrying in Dark Souls I guess) is very addicting to pull off due to it requiring very tight timing, only thing is that it is slightly op since it provides temporarily invincibility, mana regen/faster spell charge and also health regen if you receive hits during the invincibility. If you master the counter spell, it does mitigate alot of the game's difficulty, so I kind of hope to see it nerfed in some way in the future.

Something worth noting is that the English translation is a bit poor at some bits, but usually enough to get the general idea. Something that may have gotten lost in translation however is the fact that the ice spell while charged can lock onto multiple targets then released. Without this info, many people get stuck on the puzzle immediately afterwards.

Oh and the difficulty options used to be named Easy and Normal but now they're called Standard and Advanced which implies that Standard (Easy) is the recommended difficulty which it definitely should not be. It makes Nobeta a HUGE sponge and your mana will not run out as easy and this removes basically ANY challenge from the game. Make sure you play on Advanced (formerly Normal) for the best experience! I cannot stress this enough.

Don't really have anything else to say. Fantastic little game, I can't wait for the full version. Support the developer. Happy loli witching.

P.S. I've only played the first Dark Souls game and it never really appealed to me, but I was able to greatly enjoy this game regardless, so hopefully the comparison doesn't put you off. I don't think it's even nearly as difficult as Dark Souls.

P.P.S. Ignore the bad reviews or people claiming it's an abandonware scam. The game appeared on Steam unfinished as Early Access at first with plans for the game to get updated with the full rest of the game when it is finished. For some reason people live under rocks and don't follow news or they expect Early Access means regular content updates for some reason when in reality it just means an unfinished game that is still in development.

After beating the full game most of my points stand however they did a price increase and I do think the game is a tad pricey for how short it is, so do keep that in mind. Early Access was a more realistic price. Most of the game from EA seems untouched progression-wise.

I'll start off singing some praises. New levels were quite gorgeous especially the later ones. New music was nice and the music layers in certain levels (where it adds in part of the music when you enter a large main area) were a nice touch. Sad that the some of the OG music is gone though (rip old cave music).

Collectables also a nice touch. Gives you an excuse to break every barrel and pot and they have some background lore if that's your thing. Achievements too. Speaking of, some achievements will give you costumes which are a lovely addition! I recommend the Sailor outfit for obvious reasons (If you know, you know).

Story was a bit predictable and kinda cliche, but it's ok for what it is. Nothing ground breaking or anything, but it's enough to keep your attention. A few twists here and there. Voice acting was an excellent addition. Hololive VA's did fine as far as I could tell and Nobeta is absolutely adorable (and cute and funny etc.)

Unfortunately one of my fears came true where most of the mid to end game becomes thunder magic spam. That magic is truly too overpowered and it doesn't help that they add alot of long range enemies to encourage just sniping everything before even getting close. It also lets you cheese bosses with the slow-mo followed by the huge AOE blast. Last boss was especially anti-climactic while slowed by charged thunder constantly lol.

Ice magic + parrying also still dominates the early game bosses (especially Monica) as usual. I guess the ability to cheese things just naturally comes with featuring ranged shooty combat and is unavoidable.

All-in-all it's enjoyable for what it is. Just don't compare it to Dark Souls, it's very different (and far easier!) and you'll just be disappointed. Giving it a bad review for not being like Dark Souls is unfair. I just REALLY wish the game was longer. Most of the love went into the late game, so the beginning feels very short and rushed by comparison and it feels weird. I feel like the game had alot of potential, but it didn't quite realize all of it in my opinion. Game is still great fun regardless though.

P.S. Screw the maid enemy that gives enemies shield buffs.
